Default n/a ring gap

So im starting to reassemble my engine FINALLY, put my crank in the other night, was getting ready to start pistons in so I put a piston ring in the cylinder to check gap, and there was none, there was actually a overlap instead
I was told by the machine shop that my rings were already gapped, so they didnt need to do it, but turns out they are file to fit. So I ordered the proform manual ring grinder and am waiting for it to come in now so I can gap rings for the first time.
But anyways my question is what should I gap my rings to for a strictly N/A setup on a 3.908 bore? I plan to run thinner head gaskets to bump my compression also if that matters.
I see that nitrous and F/I setups have to run a bigger gap, I was wondering what are the downfalls of running that slightly larger gap in a N/A setup?
Thanks for any advice in advance

it will depend on your pistons. contact your piston manufacturer and get their recommendation
larger gap than needed costs you power. don't do it.
