LQ4 408 Stroker Timing Cover and Chain
I'm building a LQ4 408 stroker from scratch and looking to buy a double roller timing chain and have a timing cover that fits. I'm looking at going with the Melling high volume 10296 oil pump. I wanted to go with a Cloyes hex-a-just double roller timing chain but wasn't sure what timing cover would fit. I'm open to other double roller timing chain combinations but have heard good things about using the melling oil pump and cloyes timing chains. I don't necessarily want to pay almost $200 for a timing cover when the regular timing cover is pretty cheap. Thanks.

JP Performance or NMotion timing sets are pretty popular and pretty high quality. I think they're made in Australia. The double roller sets are going to have to be used with a spacer to move the oil pump away from the chain, so the stock cover will need to be ground on a little bit to get it to clear.
Melling pumps are good as well. The 10296 should be fine unless your builder sets up the clearances tight like a stock engine.

NASCAR Single Chain = Strongest
Hi 69Z, I fit the 2010 Camaro AL Oil Pump with the OEM style of a slight rotor increase in width. ($90.00)
I fit /sell the Single Chain, Avon Gear, with the billet sprockets most often.
This chain is what the GN West NASCAR builders use most often for a Timing Set.
This chain is stronger than the "dual" chains
THUS NO NEED to grind the front cover !

Looking into it some more I'm just going to go with the Katech C5R chain. Since I bought a new bare block back when I started building it, will just the stock timing gears be good with the C5R chain?
