Trickflow 220 valve guides
I’m getting ready to finish up my ls1 build and order my heads, I was wondering if anyone here has run stock rockers on the trickflow 220 as cast heads for an extensive period? This won’t be my daily driver but it will be street driven often and I want to make sure the valve guides won’t prematurely wear. If it comes down to it I’ll just buy a set of roller rockers, but if the stock rockers will work just as good I’d like to keep them, as I’ve already got the trunnion kit installed.

Are the valve guides bronze or iron? Bronze almost demands roller rockers as they don't like the side loads stock rockers put on valves.

Theyre steel. Will the side load wear the steel ones quickly or will they handle it?

Basically same guides found in all GM LS castings. Pretty resilient guides.
I’d have to believe that there are many people here running these heads with Oem rockers without issue.

I run the TFS AS Cast 220's with the powdered metal guides and I have the CHE Trunion upgrade. I dont daily drive the car, but with several thousand miles i've had no problems.
See post 9 in this thread by Brian Tooley which is a good read.

Taken from that same post in the next to last paragraph he says:
"The TFS heads come with springs that check at 160 seat 450 open. If you attempt to run stock rockers you need to install powdered metal guides to eliminate the guide wear, and install springs that are no more than 400 open, like the "platinum" springs that TEA sells, they check at 160 seat 400 open. This lesser open pressure makes life easier on the valve tips."
A bunch of folks run the metal guides and stock rockers and are fine.

You have to clarify when you say "metal" guides. Bronze and iron are BOTH metals!

Powdered metal guides with 11/32 push rods. As Brian Tooley says in the link when the stock rockers are shimmed the 220's open spring pressure is too much and the valve tips suffer as was the case with my previous set up.
