LQ9243 heads gasket question

Default LQ9243 heads gasket question

Hi all I am swapping an LQ9 into my RX7 soon since the LS1 bit the dust. I'm using 243 heads and my cam specs are as follows:

Cam 230/234 .600/.602 111 LSA

I was wondering if I can use .040 cometic gaskets to increase the compression? Or will I have PTV clearance issue? The car will be a daily driver and an occasional track car.

Depends really on how much your heads have been milled
The 230 intake lobe usually clears true flat tops with the .051” GM gaskets and the .040” will clip away at those clearances a bit
IMO if those heads are milled more than .010”-.015” it’ll get pretty close.
Best bet is to measure

The heads are stock I was not planning to mill them or anything.

I'm running a 6.0/370/LQ9 with true flat top pistons, 799 heads that have been milled .020", and Cometic .041" head gaskets. My cam only has .558 lift though. No clearance issues at all. You had better check PTV though with your increased valve lift. If for no other reason than piece of mind.

Thanks for the replies, does any one know the part number for the stock head gasket if I use the 243s? Is it 12610046?

That's the LS3/L92 for up to 4.080" bore
The factory GM LS2 I'm seeing is the 12589227 for up to 4.020" bore

Just a FYI lift doesn't affect PTV. When the cam is at top lift the piston isn't at TDC. Duration and LSA affects PTV.

Default Valve Drop Measurement ?

Hi Rex, provide your Valve Drop Measurement, I will use EAP modeling for an EXACT measurement of the distance (PTV)

I would like you to set the camshaft at Split Overlap for the best, largest, PTV.

My choice would be a thin gasket good for better Squish.
