Default which cam

I have a 1970 442 with 3;42 gears , 3600 yank convertor , 4L60 , 2000 ls1 stock bottom end , tsp 2.5 243 heads , fast 92 intake with big mouth TB , direct port nos fogger (won't be used much) . I drive the car to shows and cruise ins and want it as fast as possible but drive decent . I have 3 cams to choose from , tsp 228 228 600 600 on a 112 ed Curtis custom 227 233 612 609 on a 111 and a tsp ms3 (forgot the specs) . One of the smaller cams will go in my 99 transam 3600 stall , 799 heads , Ls6 intake , 3;23 gears .

Yes out of the 3 you listed I think it's the best overall fit on that 442. If you had more gear and stall i'd lean more towards the MS3 specs

I have 3;73 and 4;10 rearends for the car but I was wanting decent gas mileage for long trips. I also have 3;73 gears for the transam .

Just to give you an idea, I run a cam very similar to the MS3 but on a 6.0 with PRC 5.3 heads, 4.10's with a M6, and 11.5:1 compression. And even with my setup I wouldn't want a cam much bigger

The TSP 228R is an awesome cam, had it in my 01 bird, made 401 hp with an old wore out engine.

Ed Curtis in the 442. It would make good use of the heads and intake. Put the 228 in the TA with the 3.73gear. Save the MS3 for a track build. JMO, they both will be a hell of a lot of fun!

Will the Ed Curtis cam sound much different than the 228r and how much more power will it make?

That Ed Curtis cam might thump a tad harder than the 228r cam, but i think you'll be hard pressed to actually hear the difference. It might make 5-10 hp more at best
