AFR 205 vs 225s on max effort 346
I am debating another H & C combo for my C5. I have been kicking around the idea of going to a set of the AFRs but I am really torn between the 205s and 225s. The combo would be for setup for drag racing. Anyone care to dicuss this topic?

Phil...
225's all the way....I am DESIGNING them with a "max effort" 346 in mind....as well as of course larger displacement shortblocks as well.
Also, forget everything you have heard about 2.08 valves and stock bore sizing....at least as far as the AFR heads are concerned.
I have spent quite a bit of time trying to optimize both (2.055 vs. 2.080), and the bottom line is I have been able to extract better numbers overall from the larger diameter valve (much to my surprise as well considering the distance to the chamber wall). This is NOT a factory casting and with the valvejob I have carefully chosen, different chamber design (even different than our own 205), as well as working with larger runner design parameters with different contours, the 225 just kicks butt....even on the small bore diameter.
I have been doing ALL of my design work utilizing both large and small bores to make sure any changes I was evaluating responded favorably on both big and small (stock) bore engines. This certainly added quite a bit of time to the development of the product, but I felt it was necessary to test on both as I wanted the 225 to also be very effective on a stock displacement shortblock as well.
I will be posting a thread shortly to discuss which applications I believe are better suited to 225's vs 205's and visa-versa, benefits of both, and anything else I can think of covering both products....It's obviously a question that comes up very often....I will try and address all of the issues to consider to help you guys make the right choice.
Phil, your case is cut and dry....a pair of 225's..... but other peoples choices are not so clear.
Keep an eye out for that thread....
Regards to all,
Tony M.
