Default Ls6 cam in gmt800?

So, I'll be having a ls6 cam after I do a cam swap in my t/a. My 04 tahoe is 2wd. I've heard reg cab, short bed trucks using z06 cam with no issues power band wise. But, suv is heavier. Anyone use one? I plan to do long tubes ory. Already have other supporting mods. Maybe in future might go crazy if funds available and throw a blower on it... Also, might do some head work to freshen heads up since engine has 271k miles! Yet, i burn ZERO oil!!!
Thanks in advance guys!

I have a buddy that did that to a suburban and it was bad. The ls6 Cam bleeds off too much compression and will make a 5.3 quite soggy down low

If it's the LATE LS6 cam, they don't get along with 5.3 engines. The EARLY cam does much better. It is the same grind as was used in the LS2.

I was thinking about finding a 5.3 shortblock to put together, but currently, my hoe has a 4.8 which responds better to 12565308 ls6 cam from a few old read ups i found online. I'll keep my lil 4.8. Its been a great heart for the family vehicle! If i went all out, i would find a 5.3 to put together with tsp stg2 low lift truck cam so I'd just use my yellow springs from the 243s on my t/a now. I don't want any big lopey cams being family vehicle so its still comfortably for the fam on trips.

This. The Sum-8712 Summit Pro Ls stage 1 drop in cam, along with the Sum-8719 .550 lift Ls6 spring variant or the slightly smaller duration Sum-8718 torque/efficiency variant may be something you would enjoy.

Good stuff! To me, tearing an engine down far enough to do a cam (I know, mostly just the front end..) should justify ALSO putting better springs in to handle at least .550 lift. A little extra lift does wonders for the ol' torque curve.

I have a 5.3 in my 72 A-body with a LS6/Z06 cam installed in it. I don't really like the bottom end, but it comes on strong farther up, and runs great up there. I agree, I don't think you'd like it in a suburban...
