The higher lift cam would not have lost any fuel efficiency. In fact sometimes efficiency is gained due to more efficient breathing. The main reason the .500 lift cam is made is to be able to use existing valve springs.

ah I see. I used ls6 springs so I could go bigger in the future if I get bored with this setup.
