Lq9+ Shaved 317’s + streetsweeper torque cam
I’m getting ready to start my build. I planned to either shave the 317’s I have to 67cc and get a valve job or get 706/862 heads and bolt them up as the comparisons I’ve seen by hot rod showed the 706 picked up a lot down low which is what I want. 2002 Escalade awd can be a pig but the 3.73’s help. I have a 2800 stall also. I have the fti cam 220/224 lsa 111. Now with the shaved 317’s and a .045 gasket I should be around 11:1 and closer to 12:1 with the 706/862 set up. Now with my cam am I asking for trouble with the 12:1 as far as dcr is concerned? I know ls2’s run that cam no problem and they are like 10.9:1. I’m only going .030 on the 317’s so ptv shouldn’t be an issue.

I don’t really feel like replacing gears in both axles as I’m not out launching like crazy just want a little more power when I get on it. I can step up to a 3200-3400 stall or if I have to step down on the cam. I’ve seen crew cabs run a tsp 224 with good results

I plan to use it as a daily. I won’t tow with it just something to hit on here and there and might see some 1/8th passes at most. I was going to get a NNBS intake but I saw hot rod do a comparison test and it really didn’t gain but a few hp. I see some peaopl have a solid 20/20 gain and even one guy said his lost power. I don’t mind adding it during the head swap if it’ll help.

Well 1/8th mile is gonna suck for that thing without a very loose converter, the 1/2 shift is just gonna kill it. Your converter might be OK, a video of it running wide open from a dig would tell.
But then you run into the problem of driving around in a 6000 lb truck with a loose converter all the time, for me that’s fun but for most people it’s annoy and burns a lot of fuel in town.
Just remember it’s still gonna be slow after you do all this to it, unless of course your racing another big heavy slow vehicle then yours will be less slow then there’s.

I’m not looking to make it a 10 second truck or race with it just something fun to drive that’s not over cammed and sucks under 4K. It falls on its face at 5k right now. With long tubes / 11:1 compression / cam / stall / tune... I would think it could pick up 75hp over stock looking at dyno graphs with similar mods on an lq9. I have a sonnax shift kit and Vette servo so the trans should hold up if I don’t dog it.

why would you want more hp if your not gonna use it.
And the huge rpm drop between gears with 3.73s will really eat the trans up without a soft converter.
Of course you can gain 75hp from those mods Probabaly even more BUT I’m just letting you know 75hp in 3000lb car would be like you adding 150hp in your 6000lb truck so you won’t get near the seat of the paints improvement.
Either way it will be faster than it is now!

Coming from a modded Jeep srt8 I completely get it’s gonna be a hog. I had a Yukon Denali ls3/l92 with a small comp cams and long tubes before those. This is just a work truck / family hauler that I wanna make fun to drive and while I have the top end apart rebuild it all for maintenance.

With a truck that big you need all the HP you can get, and that mod also helps torque. I did it to mine and it was well worth it. Especially if you are getting it tuned at the same time with the larger fuel injectors and throttle body.

True. Since you have the intake off and will be re-tuning it all I would say yes. You can find the entire setup for $150 and for 10-20 hp that is cheap. It won't make a drastic difference but it will help make it more snappy. Plus the bigger injectors give you more flexibility as the stock ones max out at 350 hp.

I planned to run 8.1 injectors if I didn’t do the intake... most I find are around 300 with the whole assembly then I have to spend $200 to buy the harness/computer to make that throttle body work on mine. If it was 2-300 for everything I would drop it but when I start spending 500 and can’t see the gains is when I second guess it.

You can, or you can just buy a refurb 4 bolt 87mm truck throttle body from me for $50.
