Default TMS Shortblock damaged in shipping

Ordered a TMS 408 shortblock about a month back.

First and foremost - this is nothing negative towards TMS, they've been fine. **** happens, I get that. I rejected the shipment and it's going back to TMS for inspection I suppose and then I'll figure out where to go from there. Biggest disappointment is that the shipping dock was 1.5 hrs from my house, so that's a wasted trip, and I really was looking forward to getting started on this build, but I suppose that'll have to wait, at least it's winter.

The box itself isn't punctured, just appears to have been tipped on its side and the bottom broke free. Depending on what's in the crate, I'm not sure how anything could have been damaged here?

Just wondering what you guys' opinions are?

Geesh. These guys...I bought an LS2 bare block out of Florida from a guy on here who sells and ships a LOT of blocks and other stuff. He properly crated the block in a Dart block shipping box, and shipped it to me. UPS must have played kickball with it. It was broke on BOTH ends. I was going to ship the block directly to RED for sleeving. So...I had to contact seller, he filed a claim, and shipped me another block, which cost me a couple weeks. The second block showed up unhurt. Steve at RED is very specific on how he wants blocks crated, which is inside a big plastic crate box, with lots of 3/4” styrofoam board put in very specific places in the crate, according to Steve’s instructions. So I followed his directions to a T and sent it. He got it in good shape no problems. It comes back from Steve to me and shows up with the crate absolutely destroyed. I was sick. I didn’t even want to open it and look. Fortunately the block was perfect, but I can’t even describe how bad the heavy plastic crate looks. I still have the crate just as a reminder to myself. Looks like it was ran over on the interstate. Not. even. kidding.

That's why you don't accept it if it's damaged. Thompson will take care of you.

But they've had some issues with their crates being destroyed before.

I don't understand how this even happens. Fork lifts are easy to drive. Was the box crate fastened to the pallet in some way or just sitting on it.? I've noticed more of my packages are showing up looking like they've been through hell. Just carelessness in my opinion.

I work in the LTL industry, The dock workers aren't paid much and the quality of work shows it. The could break a steel cannonball lol Seriously they would rather run into something and knock it out of the way rather than back up and go around it. We had over paid over a million dollars in claims last year alone and we are small player in the industry.

Seems like the solution might be to offer more training and slightly higher pay? Would probably save on all the claims... But I don't know. Might be cheaper to just pay for the insurance.

I ONLY use Fastenal 3PL for shipping my stuff. Ive never had a problem.

Chances are the engine was probably fine but better safe than sorry, thats alot of money.

Who was the shipper?

To update this, spoke with Kyle at TMS today, they are building me another motor in an expedited manner and getting it shipped out here in a week or two.

Good customer service in my opinion.
