Default Help with cam selection

Hello everyone,

I'm building a 6.0 to go into a 06 2500hd 4x4 cc. I have some ported 243 heads to go on it and I was wondering which cam would you chose. I'm between the Texas Speed stg. 3 truck cam ( high lift) or the BTR stage 3 truck can. Truck has 4l80e trans and 4.10 gears and I will probably be swapping out the converter to a 2800. This truck is used for some moderate towing from time to time ( Camaro, 4 wheelers and bassboat) and going out of town. So this is not a everyday driver but I want a good all around cam that has as little chopto it.

Thanks

Tony

If you're going to tow with a 3/4 ton crew cab 4x4, you sure don't want a lopey cam sucking all the low end power out of that 6.0. A stage 1 or 2 will do a better job for a heavy rig like yours. You want power from right off idle.

You may want to have a look at our Truck Stage 1 .550 lift version p/n SUM-8719. It's a 209/217 112+1.

I think ^^^^^this^^^^^ would be an excellent cam for your purposes. It will even lope a bit if you set the idle low enough.

Agree with the above of staying on the smaller side of cams.

Make sure you do a REALLY good converter and trans cooler. A high stall on a heavy tow truck isn't a good plan. Lots of heat there. Also be prepared for about 10 miles a gallon in town at best when not towing with a stall and cam. On that truck it may be 8 or so mpg. And when towing.. man, you're probably gonna hate it.

You'll want a real good converter because it's gonna need a really good lockup clutch for pulling that 6k+ pound truck and 5k pounds of camaro and trailer.

ok I will let my buddy know. I was thinking that with the 11.1 compression it would take out most of the bottom end lost of the bigger cam. But I guess it's always best to go with a little smaller cam. lol

Compression is a funny thing. You'll want to put 93 in it when you're hot rodding around and 87 in it when you're on a long trip. If you're towing and on a long trip, then is a good time to also run high octane. The TBSS was 10.9:1 from the factory, so our cam will be a nice match in terms of keeping it out of knock.

The 11:1 will help. Wasn't considering that.
