Default another LS1 vs LS7 lifter q

On my LS1 lifters, the roller is fully polished. On the pics I've seen of LS7 lifters, which I haven't seen in person, the roller doesn't look polished. Is that just because of crappy internet pics, or is it really the case?

Bad internet pictures. Dont look too much on the net, youll talk yourself into and out of all sorts of things. Get the ls7 lifters if you are replacing. Gm uses them for every ls and small block roller engine as well as 4.3 and 3.8l.

would you think GM would put a sand like finish on the rollers? can't even think you would think that. the BIGGEST difference that the LS7 lifter has over the others and I've never heard anybody point this out IS that the oil hole in the LS7 lifter is about twice the size of the hole in my stock LS2 lifter hence you get better oiling on the top end.

This. The main difference is that the newer 7's (aka 2s) lifter body uses an encapsulated roller for better endurance. I think the polishing tolerances are the same.

OK good to know. While I'm at it (hate to start another thread), any comments about ls7 vs Comp 850's? One thing I'm looking for is quietness in lifters, some commenter said they switched to 850's which were quieter than their previous ls7's. Too bad it's such a huge PITA to change them, would hate to make the wrong choice.

The comp 850s are ls7s. There is no difference. anyone that says they are quieter is only hearing placebo.

I've recently installed a set of the bulk sold 12499225 LS7 lifters and with stock rockers no less, on a BTR state 2 N/A cam, the valve train is very quiet. Maybe near stock LS1 levels of quiet. I am very pleased with their performance for the dollar.

I also did not notice any abnormal looking surface finishes on the rollers.

I seem to recall some protective oil on my LS7 lifters as they were shipped. Probably the oil makes the roller look a little dull. A used LS1 lifters roller would probably look shinny by comparison.

Have LS7's in my 416 and so far they are good. If your cranking the valve springs pressure above ~400-420, probably worth going aftermarket.

For ~ $100 set of lifters the LS7 lifter rocks.
For hardcore performance GM uses Johnson 2110 roller lifters in the COPO Camaro. They are about 5x times as expensive.
