Default 58x vs 24x matter for a carb setup

Hi all,

First-time poster, looooooonng time lurker. I'm building a 1970 Nova with ls power. What I have is an LQ4, that's front crank journal is screwed up. Machine shop told me it's cheaper to get another stocker, than machine that one. My question is this. If I'm building the motor from scratch, to run a carb, can I purchase a 58x crank to use with it, or do I have to stick with the 24? I ask because I have a line on a cheap 58x crank. and I literally have no electronics or computer for the ignition system yet. Would anything else have to be changed? I know the 58x cars have the cam sensor in the front cover as well, do I have to swap to that setup as well?

Thanks all in advance. I tried searchin but didnt come up with much.

Does no one know whether I can swap to the 58x crank or whats all involved in that? Or do I have to stick to the 24x?

What are you using for an ignition?

I don't have an ignition for it yet, but was considering an MSD setup.

If you don't know what ignition to use, and using a carb, why are you worried about the reluctor? Does the MSD use it? If so it might be able to us either one.

Its a carb you dont need a cam sensor, and as far as crank sensor make it easy on yourself and run a crank trigger kit so you aren't dependent on any one crank or ignition box. Beauty of carb setups is the simplicity!

That's what i'm asking. Does it matter If i purchase a crank with the other reluctor wheel in my build. I was told if I did so I had to switch out where the cam sensor goes, but wasn't sure if that mattered in a Carb setup. this is my first LS build so Im not sure what I need to do on it.

if so that's great, If i were to purchase an MSD ignition setup, would that mesh with the crank trigger or use the factory sensor?

I think the MSD works with both 24/58x anyways but I think it also wants a cam sensor, not a huge fan of those boxes but they seem to work for a lot of people.
