Default Engine Temp, How Hot Is too Hot?

Got a bit warm today and decided to test the AC, now that I have FI.

Temps got up to 235* When is it too hot? I normally don't see temps above 200*

235 is in the ballpark of stock operating conditions. I would say 265+ I would get worried. You can always switch to an lt1 radiator if it's a problem.

I personally dont like anything above 200*. but 235 isnt anything to get your skivey's in a bunch about. Anything above that and I would start getting nervous though

Glad I was scanning it, my stock gauge never went about 210*

I won't worry about it. Just have to remove some timing when it gets up there, had some part-throttle KR.

The radiator isn't the issue, its that damn ATI fan.

Thanks.

At what temp does the stock fan come on? I just started up my LS1 '70 Corvette and it was running ~230* (I'm not sure that the '70 gauge is correct though) and the fans hadn't come on yet.

Thought about an electric water pump? I'm starting to think in that direction. I hear they really keep things cool. They're higher than a giraffes' a$$ however.

When my gauge reads 210 (98, so it is no idiot gauge), I am really at 235. Gauges suck.

I have been thinking about one too. It would be nice to cool down the engine in the staging lanes without starting the engine.

98 gauges are padded at 210, to not to over that until after 230 actual or so.

but at least under 210, they seem to be fairly accurate, or at least mine it.

my car doesn't see anything over 205 anymore, with the 180 stat and programming, and normlly its never over 200

Cool

Mine never gets more than 195 during normal driving and our temps in the high desert are now over 100 everyday. Maybe your ATI fan does not move enough air. I still have the stock fans.

There is suppose to be a SPAL that will fit. Might have to switch it out.
