Default 370 in Fbody won’t stay cool

Hey guys I have a 2000 Pontiac Trans Am with a 370 iron block brand new build. It has a big cam in there with a Holley Terminator X ECU. The car does have the griffin stand up radiator that everyone uses on here. I also have a fan shroud and 1 16 And 9 inch Spal. Stock LS1 water pump with a 160 thermostat. The main problem is that the car won’t stay cool before with the old motor I would see temps at cursing around 170-180 on the freeway now I see 185 plus. At park it will go up to 190 but will not over heat. Not sure what the problem could be so I had 2 more pusher fans in front of the radiator thinking it wasn’t enough air cooling the radiator down. Let me know if there anything you guys could see that the problem or what might be the problem, thank you

185-190 isn't to hot that's a pretty good operating temperature.

Some people around here would kill for your "problem". That's not an overly hot temperature and in fact, I'm happy with mine at 210 F to boil off oil contaminates - water condensation, unburned fuel, etc.

I know the temperatures aren’t bad just wondering why before the motor would run and stay cooler and now it’s a lot hotter.

Your rebuilt and upgraded motor consumes more fuel, makes more power and . . . . makes more heat. More heat = higher temperatures.

Its elementary.

Temperature sounds good from what's stated.

However an iron block retains more heat than the original aluminum LS1 block, plus the other factors already mentioned.

Free flowing exhaust and good tuning is a big help in keeping things cool in my book. I swapped out the Walker sound fx iroc style perforated tube muffler I had on my 4.8 swapped 160 deg thermostat and tuned for it Camaro for a nice straight through magnaflow and now the fans hardly ever come on anymore even in the worst STL heat unless I'm stuck in traffic, water temperature usually never gets over 175 and it was alway closer to 195 or more in similar situations with no other changes but chucking the OEM style muffler.

if you want it to run cooler than 170 why are you using a 160deg stat? it wont even open till then

Drill a few holes in it or knock the center out if your worried about it that much and remove the hood lol

What temperature do you have the fans coming on at? May need to lower their turn on temp if you want it to run cooler.

As everyone said it doesn't sound like you have a problem and the bigger and more powerful motor will make more heat.
