From what I remember, all stock parts with fly cut pistons

Trickflow heads milled for 12-1 compression, 239-243 on a 111+4, heads have ls3 intake valves turned down to 204 for light weight. ported 102 intake with a 102 t.b. stock bottom end, pistions notched. yellow terra rockers.

Seems awfully simple and yet it made probably 50 more whp than similar builds....through an auto lol.

My buddy did a 4.8 that made 600 at the crank on his engine dyno. That would be 450-470 wheel depending on drivetrain.
A 5.7 would certainly make it easier to do, even with an auto.

Nothing is impossible, but sacrifices will be made.

Honest question Joe, what was that setup to make those numbers in a 4.8? That's boost territory which I know you're well aware of

engine is an air pump (we all knew that)
move more air = more power obv

In 2002, I saw 5.7L make 600bhp, 7,800rpm on gasoline

rough math @ 5.7L
350x7800/3456 = 789CFM * .069 = 54lb/min using turbocharger air temp constant "hot air" on a naturally aspirated engine

In other words, 540bhp is a 'close minimum' at 7800rpm with 100% VE at 5.7L ... on gasoline

spin the NA engine high enough it can make the power but the stress of RPM is a tedious, difficult to master, especially if the engine has been 'built'

2 things to note:
1. stock 4.8L gen4 can do 900rwhp+ so don't use forged parts for 500~

2. Just because its forged/built doesn't make it better than stock, machine shops have learning curves too:
