O ****. I was just looking through a log from last night, I’m at 100% injector duty cycle at 6400rpm. O crap. 6515rpm I’m at 103%.

edit. Something ain’t right. I have 60lbs injectors, set at 70psi which is around 70lb’s. And I’m at 100% duty cycle. I think my fuel pump isn’t keeping up. Gotta be what it is. 70lb injectors can support way more power than I have.

What's your injector size and base pressure?

Agreed. I'm assuming you're not logging fuel pressure? Bet it's dropping up top. Shoulda ran a 450.

Sorry to hear that man. Should be a easy fix if the pump isn’t keeping up atleast that’s the issue.

well I was told by some guys on the gto forum that a 450 would over run the dead head fuel system. No matter because this works out great anyways. My buddy just gave me an almost new aeromotive 340 to add to mine and I’ll convert to return style. No biggie. Just don’t feel like doing it right now.

Quantify big boost.

There have been quite a few youtube dynos/videos of about 29ish lbs up to 32 on 6.0s with 0 issues and have made a considerable amount more power than a 5.3l. Like 15xx hp 6.0s.
So the whole dont big boost a 6.0 seems a big like a myth there.

The main issue with any of those fuel systems is

A. The crappy alternator that always gives out
2. The horrible wiring to the pump
E. The even worse setup inside the pump

Trying to run a 340 without a hotwire it wont make anywhere near 300lph even with a properly charging alternator. A 450 wouldnt fix that. Its not a fuel issue. Its a voltage/output issue.
Based off calculations and fuel curves and a high 11s afr you should be able to make over 700rwhp with a 340 on a properly operating system. The regulator in the tank also is not up to that task.

ok. I’ll upgrade my wiring. See what happens there. I doubt it fixes it. My alternator charges at 13.5v when warmed up. I’ve upgraded the cables and I have a new (not reman) factory delco alternator. Dual 4 gauge grounds and 4 gauge going from the alternator to the battery. I also have an overdrive pulley on the alternator to offset the under drive. I’ll run 8 gauge to the rear to power the pump(s) and see what happens.

i feel like fuel pressure is dropping because I don’t have a boost referenced setup. And the pump being in a dead head, According to what aeromotive told me, doesn’t flow 340 in that kind of system.

Were you able to log oil pressure with hptuners and the stock sender? I’ve got the pid for the oil pressure sensor, but I’m not sure if it actually works on the ‘04 or if I need a mechanical gauge.

Someone reputable on here has posted countless pics of hairline cracks in 6.0 blocks from boost. They're simply not as strong as a 5.3 block. Anything in the 4 digit power range and I wouldn't go with a 6.0 block.

That part is all in the tune. Thats how any other sbe engine lasts on high boost.

Also, yes updating the wiring to your pump will make it put out what the fuel curve says.
The issue is, there is no complete hotwire kit for the GTO so youre going to splice into wiring and use much larger wire then neck it down to go through the pump module and there is no upgraded in tank harness either so again youll run into issues there. So upgrading will help but you will still have some resistance to max voltage and current getting to the pump so expect less than rated output.
We are working on a solution there, but its taking a while to get everything necessary to.

I had considered the wires in the bucket to be to small. I’ll probably upgrade those too. I need to see if it need special wire to hold up to fuel.

How has no one mentioned that 340/450 pumps DO NOT Like 70+Psi of pressure

at 70 psi the 340 flows 250, at 80 psi flows 220, 90 psi flows 200...

they flow 340 @44 psi. this is why you're supposed to run low base pressure in aps that are boost referenced.

That IS your problem .

I run 60 psi base so my 1500cc injectors will go further . but I have to run 3 450s instead of 2 because the flow rate drops so much.

Its not that the DONT like xxx pressure, its just exactly how a standard output fluid pump works.
You can add more voltage which does increase the output like a BAP etc. Youre making the pump work and accordingly it will take more current to keep that work up.
Its a near linear rate.
Running less base pressure is a better way to counteract it, but you can still reach the limit of the pump before that as far as output vs afr vs fuel needed.
They dont really have an issue at 10lbs from what we have seen. But that depends on way more than just the pump. And providing them with less voltage or current than they need will definitely agitate that.

As far as in tank wiring it should definitely be tlx teflon wire. There is an slx also which has more insulation but is same gauge wire. Dont use std over the counter wire.
I think mcmaster-carr sells it but definitely racetronix does and its fairly cheap vs other places per ft. They also already have pigtails with 12 or 18 inch of leads that would help.
