Update ll:

Went to Irwindale and ran my Camaro with the 799 heads. I was up against a new 5.0 Mustang and I left the light so strong I never saw the other car. I ran my best 1/8 with a 8.659 sec @ 83 mph which is 2/10ths faster than my best with the stock 241 heads.

lol thanks! Yeah it does feel good to know I can beat 5.0 liter Mustangs, even if it is in the 1/8th mile.

Well, if you're not too short-geared you should take them in the 1/4 too!

Even better. Yeah I have the stock 4l60e and 3.23 10 bolt so I'm good. My 60 ft shows that I picked up power even off idle which is nice as I'm trying to be fast enough to run with 5.0s and the Dodges.

If you picked up power off idle, you have a fairly flexible engine. So often you hear about it all gaining up top or upper midrange.
Like I said, gotta feel good!

Car is auto isn't it? Which rear gear do you have?

I'm thinking you need to invest in a converter if you want to get full value from what you've got already.

With my yank SS3600 my 1/8th time is 8.03, that's with a completely stock engine. With the heads you have you would be in the 7's with the same converter. It would take 2 or 3 tenths just off your 60'.

Yup my '01 is auto with 3.23s. That's a good idea, but I don't know what brand of stall to go with. Once Fontana opens in 2020 I'm hoping to run a low 13 before they kick me out. My Camaro is a vert and I'm not putting a roll cage in it, no way.

I didn't lap the valves but I did clean the valves, combustion chambers, and spark plug threads before I installed the 799 heads.

I'm very happy with the Yank SS3600. I did a fair amount of research before buying and I suggest you do the same. When driving normally you hardly notice it. When you hit it though it makes a huge difference. My car ran 13.6 @ 102 stock. Adding the converter and headers it ran 12.6 @ 108.

Makes me wish changing out gears was as easy as a torque converter r&r. That's awesome OP you went two tenths faster in just the 1/8 mile.

Yeah I'm happy being a bit quicker. I have a 73 Nova outback because I couldn't find a place that would swap the gears in the 8.5" 10 bolt; maybe one day I'll get it back on the road. Fontana is open again in January so I'll go run the quarter next month or in early February. To run a low 13 I need to run 8.4 seconds in the 1/8 and to run a high 12 would require 8.3 seconds in the 1/8th mile.

And I have thought about a stall, dual exhaust, a bigger cam, etc. however, I've already put on on about 6,000 miles since I got the Camaro. Already with the stock cam and truck heads I'm right back in the game with stock Mustangs as beatable. I'm still chasing newer Camaros and Dodges.

Fontana will have Street Legal Drages soon and I ordered a How To Build & Modify Chevrolet Small-Block V-8 Cylinder Heads by David Vizard; should be here soon. Anyway I have my 241 Camaro heads and a set of 862 heads I am porting. I have a brother with an '02 C5 but I haven't been able to convince him to get a set of 243 heads to improve his powerband. I think I'll show him one of the heads once I'm finished porting a set. I'm almost finished with the 862 heads off a Tahoe. The one thing I seem to do differently than others I've seen is to reduce the spark plug boss.

I found a cam that should allow me to pass smog in CA. I would have preferred an LSA of 114 but 112 will do for now. Trying to get my '01 Camaro into 8.4x times at Irwindale, so I'll probably swap my cam around late March when I think I'll have more time.

That's a really mild cam. Close to stock duration.

It is a mild cam, but I drive my Camaro all over. I want more low and mid rpm torque to get out of the whole even better than I do with just he 799 heads. Plus I want to run a cam that doesn't need any further tuning.

Nope. Stock LS3 is 204/211, .551/.525, 117LSA. This cam has SLIGHTLY less lift, but a bit more duration, and more importantly, the new cam has a lot less LSA, which will boost torque a bunch.

Yeah it's that torque that I'm after. I'm trying to get 2/10ths quicker in the 1/8 or run low 13s at Fontana and the increase in lift over stock, remember stock intake is .467 lift, and the tighter LSA should give me a good chance getting quicker. I already beat a newer 5.0 Mustang on the highway, so really Dodges and new Camaros are my new target.
