I think you would've run faster with the LS6 cam (The second generation of it that is). It's just more aggressive than the one you bought (210/218, 116 lsa, .551 lift). I had it on my old WS6 and it passed smog without issue. At the very least though, you should run faster than you were before. The question is what will she trap.

The 2nd gen LS6 cam is 204/218, .555/.551, 117.5 LSA. Some copies are a little different.

Also keep in mind I have other mods I've done to my '01 LS1 Camaro such as a 2.5" y-pipe, 799 heads ported by me, and a tune. I expect that I will improve my times at the track with the cam. With the little truck cam the '01 through '04 LS1s have I'm quicker than new Mustangs, so I'm sure a bump in lift and duration will move me up the ranks.

I doubt you'll have any problem passing smog with that cam. As long as it idles fairly smooth, there are no VISIBLE non-CARB-approved mods, and (this is the BIG ONE) it is not throwing any codes. You don't want any red flags that might raise their eyebrows.
Your engine should run fairly crisp with that cam, which is very similar to the LS2/LS3 cams, except mainly for the narrower 112 LSA, which should kick up the torque low down.

Ehh, I dunno about the new mustangs, especially the auto. I’ve seen them run high 11’s with little more than drag radials.

I’m sure you could get into the 12’s with a good 60’.

I've been to Fontana many times over the past 3 years and the C7 Z06s are in the 11s or faster and the Hell Cats are in the 11s or faster stock or with good tires. Anything else I've seen, besides a rare Tesla, running in the 11s or better is far from stock.

I'm hoping for 12s or to at least be competitive against the Dodges and new Camaros.

I've got some of the parts needed to swap my cam and I'll do a little bit at a time. I added a couple washers to the oil pump to increase oil pressure a bit, hope it works. Here are some pics of the stuff I've got.

I used 2 washers to increase oil pressure in the Melling M295 oil pump. The washers go in the pressure relief valve screw in cap.

I just started today to remove parts. I'm working by myself, but I hope to have the swap complete over the next few days.

Making progress by getting the stubborn crank bolt off. I put a torch to it, a cheap impact wrench, a whole lot of PB blaster, and then finally a Craftsman ratchet with a cheater bar and pry bar to break it loose.

Timing cover is off

I don't know any other way to remove the cam position sensor, so I'm taking the LS6 intake off :smug: and then I can remove the super tiny almost too tiny stock '01 LS1 cam. I'll update this post later.

I removed the stock cam and just installed the new cam in the LS1.

A pic with the valve cover off and amazed that it's so clean there.

New cam going into the LS1.

Don't look at the cam bearings.

I started the Camaro last night, so this is not the 1st start. There is an annoying whistle that goes away once I've driven the car a few miles.

Good to know thanks. Camaro runs strong on the highway so I hope this lock down in California doesn't last too many weeks.

lol yeah cool I'll be there in my '01 Camaro. Just an fyi I now have traction problems when trying to launch, so I think this cam with my 799 heads should help my LS1 run some solid track times.

It was nice day today, so I was driving my '01 around town. Out of the hole the new Mustangs are no match for my Camaro as I put car lengths on the Mustang from the hole, but rolling the Mustang did pull on me.
