Default Budget lq9 build advice

I have a junkyard lq9 I have been taking apart and today i got the oil pan off and had a look at the cam, main, and rod bearings. They all look ok but def a little worn but seeing as the engine is from a junkyard I was thinking about having all the parts cleaned then just having a light hone done and cam bearings installed then putting it all back together with new bearings, rings, and pistons. I'm trying to stay on a smaller budget so id like to avoid boring, resizing rods, blue printing, ext. Is this a stupid idea? And if anyone has done the minimum like this what were your results?

For what you are looking for, we have the perfect option.
Drop in pistons
Std rings
Bearings
All gaskets and bolts
Oil pump
Timing set
Ls build manual
$699 shipped

Then cam kit depends on what you want they start at $515 and go up

Lifters $130

That gets you everything in great quality and with free shipping for the best price out there.

Let me know if you are interested!

I did just that for my Tahoe, used the ws6 kit. Plus cam and tune. The results are a much better driving experience, and I still pull 19 mpg on my daily route.

Sounds like a good deal, do you have a link to the kit?

Unless you have ascertained the engine is indeed shot, these engines see 200-300k miles all the time.

Its not that I think it's shot but the cam bearings are not smooth to the touch and the rotating assembly is really dark. The crank and main caps has have a thin layer of dark crud on it that I don't want coming off and getting into the bearings in the future.

That might be cooked oil, in which case a freshening might be warranted.
I would take WS6store up on their offer. They are quite reputable and well known here for good service and customer care. Plus they will make sure you get what you need, no more, no less. You will be treated fairly.

How about a little punctuation, complete sentences, and clearer writing in general? Oh, and the boldface can go too...

That motor is just getting broken in. The LQ9 in my 03 has over 320,000 miles and going and going.

Trying to reuse the old bore with new pistons and rings just isnt a good idea.
The ring gap will change and ptb clearance also up and down the bore. Do it once and do it right. It doesn't cost that much more for bore/hone or torque plate bore/hone.

If you have press fit pins you might want to let the shop do those as well.

Yeah if you read my previous responses I've already said I will have the cylinders honed and even bored if necessary. I'm still not 100% sure I'm going to disassemble the short block however. Everything rotates very smoothly and from what people on here keep telling me 160k isn't that many miles on an ls engine.

I got lucky I have the 4th gen rods with floating pistons that's one of the first things I checked.
