Default Sleep Cam Suggestion(used Search)

Well i have been searching and reading for almost 2 hours on a cam selection and i have narrowed it down to 3 cams. Im looking for a cam thats gonna net close to 380rwhp and maybe 400rwhp with a set of heads which will come later on. its going to be in my c4 hybrid(ls1/t56). The car will have to pass on a dyno emissions here in illinois, so im hoping this will be possible with a good tune from pcmforless or mti. I will have pushrods, retainers, springs upgraded. I want a cam that i dont have to spin to 6800 to get full power because i want my bottom end to last 100k. My 3 selections are:

MTI Stealth II cam (224/220 .576/.581 116lsa)
MTI C2 Hammer cam on 114lsa (224/224 .581/.581 114lsa)
TR 227/224 Cam

I have been doing alot of looking and i dont want to be disappointed iwth the results. I mean i know ill be getting a nice hp upgrade no matter what but i jsut want the best combo possible.

There is also MTI Stealth I (220/220, .581/.581 115lsa)

And TSP has one but I can't locate the specs on a 115 lsa

I got the MTI Stealth II

I think for emissions (depending on where you live), the Stealth II cam might be your best choice of the cams you listed. Or, the cam soliari PM'd you about sounds like a good fit as well, it made some good numbers..

So u guys dont think the C2 on the 114 would pass? Also i was thinking of trying the Stealth II cam on a 115lsa instead of the 116lsa. Might make more power and come on a bit sooner in the curve. I really like the C2 114lsa cam i jsut dont want to get it in and have to change it because of uncle sam.

We offer a 220/220 .581 .581 on a 115 for our stealth camshaft.

We sell the sleeper cam for $360!!
Through cats you wouldn't even know my wife's convertible has a sleeper cam in it

My opinion is that a 224/224 duration cam is marginal to pass emissions. Especially if you're in cali ... the stealths are pretty much a sure win.

I think it's the amount of degrees the valves stay closed between lobes. That 224/224 on a 114 has a -2 degree overlap while a 216/216 on a 114 has a -12 degree overlap. That extra 10 degrees of time the valves stay closed means more emissions friendly

Actually 224/224 114lsa = -4

Jason what kind of numbers would be possible to put down with your stealth cam. Would 415rwhp be possible with a set of patriot ls6 heads? If not i was thinking of going with the stealthII cam from MTI which is (224/220 .576/ .581 but on a 115lsa instead of a 116lsa.) My ideal cam is the c2 cam on a 114lsa but if you guys think it wont pass ill go smaller. Do u guys think the stealth II on a 115 would be a good choice i think it would make excellent power. I like the 115 instead of the 116 because i dont want to be reving the **** out of the motor to go fast. Or, If you guys know of a better suited cam please chime in.

it depends on what you mean by a sleeper? i just installed a COMP cam...
222/224 .566/.568 114 and i thought it would be quite but i was wrong!
with my FLP (no cats) and stock SS catback its quiet but has a good lope!
and when i open the cut out....(straight pipe) it lopes HARD... sounds awsome!
this cam pulls hard but is no sleeper ... well unless you run cats and stock cat back???

Not really worried about the lope or nuttin more worried about emissions and how much cam would be to much. i know the tune is important but would the c2 on the 114 pass? and if not on a 115?

If you are worried about emissions, the cam with the more negative degree of overlap will pass with a better chance.
To calculate degree of overlap

((int Dur + Exh Dur)/2) - (2 x lsa)= Degree of overlap.

Stealth II Degee of overlap ((224+221)/2 - (2x116) = -9
(actually -9.5 because the exhaust duration is 220.5) as per the cam card

So with almost -10 degrees it is very emission friendly.

Hope this helps.

Usually a 115lsa will have shift points around 6500>6600 or so for maximum powerband benefit
A 116 will be able to pull till 6800 but this doesn't mean they peak at those numbers, they peak way earlier than that around 6100>6300 or so, then the power carries on for a little longuer.
It is not necessary that you shift higher than their peak, or maybe 100rpm more.

Stealth I or II are both really good, the II has a bit more power though. They are both on XE-R lobes (Or similar ramp rate lobe) with a rate of 49 or lower.

My Stealth II is a LUNATI grind

224/221, .576/.581 116+4 lsa

The best sleeper cam would be a Z06 cam. But get the later model one. It has like .550 lift and pretty decent duration. Nothing wild, but it will give you a bunch top end and nobody should notice with tuning.

Default Tr 220/220 Cam

IMO, the TR 220/220 cam on a 114 LSA is a great sleeper cam. Will definitely pass emissions, no problem. Through LT's, Carsound high-flow cats, and an SLP dual-dual exhaust, you could barely tell my car had a cam in it. If you are going for "stealth" mode, the SLP dual-dual is a great flowing, very quiet catback (too quiet for many). Does a great job of hiding a cam.

For anyone worried about revving too high with a Stealth II, I can tell you that 6600 shifts work great. It *will* pull out to about 6800 if you really want it to but I've had best results shifting anywhere between 6600-6750 with mine (anywhere in that range gives the same results in my setup.)

I like the idea of the stealth cam but thats not my main concern. Im tryingt o figure out which camshaft would give me the most power and still pass emissions. Not trying to be ignorant by saying that i know there is alot to making your car fast and just adding power doesnt always help. Ive already begun making the 90vette sound in the suspension department. I really like the c2 cam for its power but the stealth II(115lsa) looks like it would make good power as well. My buddies 99 ss has a 224/224 thunder racing cam in it and i want a cam with equal or greater power output. Dont know if the stealth cam is that cam. Ive ridden in a c2 cammed car and wow! is all i have to say. Not a G5x3 but hey it still sat me back. The car was c2 cammed (114lsa), stock heads, stock suspension m6 99 ss. He ran a 11.98 at the track here and had a ruff time getting traction. He doesnt worry about emssions though because hes got obII on thats all they check. So to shorten the post up and more cam suggestions im still looking on here and finding one i like better each day.

To be "Stealth" you need a minimum 115 lsa, to maximise the negative overlap. To make power on a nice flat band I wouldn't recommend bigger than 224 (in order not to hurt the low down trq). Now comes the Lobes. You would need a XE-R or similar ramp with a rate of 49 or lower.

If I wanted to wait for a custom cam. I would do:
224/224, .581/.581 115+4lsa on an XE-R Comp lobe. on a 112 ICL

The Stealth II was the closest off the shelf I could get to that figure.

Predator I like the idea of the custom grind you gave me alot. You think it will make as much power as the C2 Hammer cam or the stealth II cam? whats the + 4 after the lsa mean and what is a 112icl? Sorry im a little cam ignorant. Will i need to rev that cam past 6000rpm to make peak power? I know i would need to dyno that to be sure but just an experienced estimate from a well knowledged member would be adiquite. Do you think that cam with a good set of heads could put u in the low 11s with the right setup or hit around 420rwhp? Sorry i know its alot of novice questions.
