I mean this in a nice way, not checking P to V clearance is what bit you in the butt. P to V is a normally a cam DURATION issue and seldom a cam lift issue. Milled heads etc make the P to V less.

What is the mark in the cylinder?

You can get reasonably priced forged pistons If you know where to look and if they are actually needed.
cheap pistons
not out of the block at all.
3 layer replacement mls head gaskets
he didn’t want to buy forged pistons

the “mark” in the cylinder in the earlier picture is just assembly lube that was puddled at the ring gap and I rotated the crank and it just sat on the cylinder wall.

yes, I know it was a duration issue. As I explained earlier, its all been resolved.

the Howard’s rattler cam will go into another 5.3 that is going to get bored and stroked to a 383LS with forger rotating assembly. That project is a ways down the road and money is real tight so it’s not a priority anytime soon.
