Default 2002 LQ4 24x Reluctor Wheel Runout

So just received the engine block back from the machine shop checking the run out and I get .040 thou as well its scrapping the #5 main cap.I didn't measure the run out before taking it apart but wondering what would be the fix for this situation? I am definitely by no means an LS expert but if anyone can let me know what the average run out on these engines are? I read the spec is .028 thou.

If it's scraping, it got hit before install. See your machinist...

No big deal. Just take a hammer and punch and true it up. They get warped during installation sometimes.

I think I'm done with machinists from now on, they want top dollar and in return I get a bent reluctor ring.

As WE TODD DID says, a little tweaking will fix it. A love tap or two oughtta do it.

Even if you fix it yourself,, talk to the shop, the boss may not know he's got a careless slacker in the works..
Honestly that would eat me up, if the assembler didn't check that,, what else didn't he check ??

Yes, .028” is the max number. As said, it’s an easy fix for you to accomplish, but I’d still want the shop manager to know what’s what. He/she needs to know what’s going out the door. A little bad reputation and the place shuts down. It’s that simple in today’s world.

I tapped mine gently with my recent LS1 build from memory it was around .014" and I was able to get it to under .010" with careful tapping and a dial gauge.
Last thing I wanted was to put engine together and have a problem needing engine to be removed again, I did some research and there was one person that had a problem with sensor reading with a number as low as 020" so I wanted to stay well away from that number.
I was very reluctant to do it myself but was not that difficult with a dial gauge and careful progressive tapping.

My engine builder has a good reputation but I am almost certain they scratched valley plate surface area on block badly, it was too difficult to take back so I a made a large flat block and used course cloth backed wet at dry to re surface it myself.

You may not be able to correct it by tapping if the area distorted is more of a dent than a gradual incline.

Maybe talk to your machinist first explain to him the dilema.

Shine a light on the affected area of the reluctor.
IF it is more of a dent than just bent at a very slight angle, that would likely show in the reflection of he light. AND a heart to heart with the machine shop would then be in order.
If it is a simple bend, a few judicious and well placed love taps will put things in order.
Best of luck to you!
