Who's running T-Rex w/ ported heads?
Newb alert. I was studying the list w/ the quickest cam only times, and it looks like the T-Rex is proving itself on the track. Did alot of searching and could not find anyone running the cam with ported heads. If there is, please post info! I think I am going to run the cam with a set of FFHP stage 2 heads. Looks sweet for the price, CNC'd by TEA and hand finished by ffhp. Sound like a strong combo? I know I can't have them milled (ptv issues), but would the 5.3 heads be okay unmilled? I can't notch my pistons.

since PV clearance is very tight with stock heads/stock valves...I'd be concerned that even with unmilled 5.3L heads that the larger valves will be awfully close.

But what a PIA. I wasn't a believer in these big cams until I installed one, and drove it on the street. They are in fact streetable and very powerful. Now I gots to have one lol.

We will soon see, I am going to run this cam in my 346. I previously had the tr230, with gtp stage 2 5.3's-11.8:1 cr. I have wiseco flat tops with valve reliefs. From my experience this weekend at the track with the 230, I think this cam tuned will put me in the 10's even in this soupy mess AKA St. Louis summer weather. I have 2.02 1.57 valves, I am definitely checking pv clearance and degreeing the cam-Paul seems to think I will be ok even with the 5.3's milled .035. We shall see

I just finnished assembling mine with a t-rex cam,AS stg.2.5-ls6 heads and a 90mm lsx intake/lsx tb. I hope to be tuned on thurs. My last setup g5x2,AS stg.2-5.3 heads and a ls6 intake shaner s2 made 457/417 that was through the stock 10bolt. I've since added a strange 12 bolt with 430's an a spool.
Any guesses at what I'll put down ?

I've been talking with Terry @ Patriot on getting the larger style camshafts to ported heads. What we've done to this point is go with the 59cc ls6 style heads with stock size valves. You get the extra compression for the low end help, and you get good flow even for a stock size valve. Or you could just cut the pistons & put a big valve in also!!!

with the addition of the rear i dyno'd 442 i lost 15 like you thought this was last fall that was 410 gears and a posi. i switched gears an added the spool. so you think that i will only gain 20 or so RWHP with the better heads 325@.600 as opposed to 306@.600 with the old heads. the 90mm lsx against the ls6 an the t-rex instead of the g5x2. People are seeing those kind of gains from the intake throttle body swap only. I have'nt had the car tuned yet it will hopefully be done on thurs 7/22

Maybe a set of ported LS6 heads from SDPC would be a good choice to run with the T-Rex. They have stock sized valves. The question is, would a slightly smaller cam, like a G5 series, along with some killer big valve heads, make more power?

if you are changing heads, cam and intake, asuming you have a m6 car, you should see close to 500 rwhp imo.

As far as the trex vs G5x2 alone, i think you'll only see about 10 RWHP difference between the two as far as my own experiance. For me, I went from the TR230 to the Trex and gained 17 RWHP. Did 413 RWHP (A4) with the TR230 and ABS S2 heads (307 CFM @ 600) and 430 RWHP with Trex and same setup.
With the better heads your getting, you might pick up another, lets say 10-15 RWHP, IMO. More if you port the LS6 manifold and a bigger TB. It will be very interesting to see your numbers when it's all done. Good luck!
