Cam bearings

I know you’re not supposed to look but here’s the ones from my LQ4.

Why aren't you supposed to look?

They look pretty normal to me. Take a dial bore gauge and measure your clearance if you're concerned.

It's sort of a joke. Cam bearings, even slightly worn, show copper coloring, leading many to believe they are worn OUT.
So now it is "advised" to just not look at them if replacement wasn't part of the original plan.

Everyone probably already knows this, but new oem bearings come out of the box with copper showing

Just to be safe, measure the inside of the bearing in 3 or 4 places to get a bore figure, then subtract the cam journal diameter to get your clearance

Worst part is the split design of them. The coating wasn't just wore off my ls6....it was flaking off. That's what lead me to rebuild it....well that and it wasn't gonna get run any easier 😁
