Prepare to go to space with StockA4. I'm already into the block for $350 and it's still at the machinist getting cleaned and having the bores checked and cam bearings replaced so hopefully it doesn't need more than a hone or a slight overbore

I’m doing a budget LS1 as well. Going in my sons 2800 lb square body S10.
The goal is to scare the crap out of him. 😊
It runs low 12’s now with a simple 350 SB.

I seem to recall stockA4 having trouble figuring out where the knock sensors went on a previous project...

But I think he eventually got it right...

I tend to push the dynamic compression on my stuff, my lq4 makes peak power with 22 degrees all in, it's almost 12 to 1 static over 9 to 1 dynamic and it does great year round on 93 pump,

I want to build this 5.7 over 11 to 1 at least I told my machinist to cut the stock 243 heads I dropped off with it 0.030 so I'm just trying to decide on piston and camshaft once I hear back from him on the final bore size. This engine won't need the dynamic compression for lower end power as the ivc will need to be a little later for the top end power I want.

The 5.7 will go in my weekend warrior 2002 Z28. Full interior a/c ect, Stock ls6 intake, pacesetter 1-3/4" longtubes with 3" dual exhaust with x-pipe, 3600 stalled 4L60e, and 4.10 gears 255/50r16 Hoosiers, happy to shift at 7k Rpm !

I'm open to budget piston and cam ideas for the above setup guys thanks for the interest in my build

I’m going to use a Cam Motion Titan 4.
227/233 .600 113
Will also mill the 799’s 030”. I’ll port them and add a fancy valve job.

Due to a massive price goof by Amazon, I got a Mahle flat top piston kit for $279......that will never happen again!

My kids S10 has a 3800 stall TCI converter.

I dont have an intake manifold yet. I’m considering a TBSS.

The block I got has only 28k miles on it.
I’ll use gen 4 rods.

Your son's truck is going to be quicker than my camaro it's so light weight, good deal on the pistons too. I'd like to find something like that I'll keep looking.

My old 5.7 had a 226/230 112+4 and it was awesome but this time I'm looking to get a little rowdier not quite T-Rex rowdy but close

My plans for this 5.7 have changed. My machinist said the cylinder walls are some of the crappiest he's ever seen and they are barely worth honing lol. I'm not going to drag this engine because it's junk I'm going to autocross it instead haha so I'm in no rush to get it finished. I plan to build it with all the best used stock parts I have lying around, 241 heads and the early Camaro firebird camshaft and use it in stock class SCCA autocross I'll try to make it the strongest version of a F-body spec LS1 I can

I got the block back already and I started throwing some of my best used stuff in it, Right now I'm settling the used 02 main bearings and crankshaft in with a mixture of the pistons and rods from this '97 LS1 block that were not scratched too badly by the bad rod bearing debris and some of the old pistons from my '02 Z28 LS1 LS6 block that blew up (hydrolock water got in it from rain storm). It only has a light cleaning and new cam bearings installed, so the bills so far for this one is $182 + $350 so $532 total.

To finish the engine I have these parts on my shelf already 241 or 243 heads with a valve job and either a 1721 or 9065 or a comp cams 212/218-115+0 camshaft to use. Its going in a bone stock 02 Camaro Z28 A4 for SCCA autocross and track stuff what do you all think?

They're fine, I'll probably do the 243 heads and the 9065 camshaft
