Default Metal Oil Galley Plug? or Plastic?

I caught the bug, saw somebody praising metal oil galley plugs so I bought one. However, I notice the end (inside side) of the plastic plug is convex so it can seal better against the oil passage. The metal one I bought it flat. I put the metal one in and seems to have a good feel / fit. Just the sealing side (inside, picture top) seems to be a better design on the plastic plug... anybody had experience with these metal plugs? Thanks!

I run the metal plug. I prefer it. The front surface does not seal. It diverts oil down to the filter. The sides sort of seal, and the metal barbells are much tighter around the sides than the plastic one.

There is also a dual o-ring alum part made by improved racing.

Obviously the stock part works.

I like the alum versions because they are easy to remove. 😊

BTW, we refer to this part as the barbell.

Thanks guys, I will run the metal one Just thought maybe press fit with that plastic part might conform better to the crankcase and seal up tighter as a result. The reviews on these metal ones are kind of hilarious (although shouldn't be). A lot of people broke the metal ones off trying to install them. Mind slid in with a good positive feeling, almost like racking a really high quality rifle haha

As long as it fits nicely in the bore, it should seal okay. If it's too loose, the plastic one would seal better because it's a slight press fit and the plastic can deform. A lot of people have issues with metal ones sealing too tightly as well and being difficult or impossible to install. We make one with an O-ring on the front plug to ensure that it seals. Here's a link: https://www.improvedracing.com/gm-ge...g-barbell.html

The tip of the barbell is actually designed to fit into a reduced hole in the passage, which you can see below. The tip is also rounded to improve oil flow and reduce turbulence in that 90-degree bend.

Your design fixes my EXACT concerns! Wow, you guys are smart I don't buy the nonsense that the metal ones all close up with 5 thousands gap etc. I think the factory designed from plastic (1) because is cheap but (2) because conforms to the crankcase / irregularities. Unfortunately, I just installed my rear main seal Otherwise I'd be more than happy to use your design. It's far superior.

I run metal. No issues. Stock oil pump ls6 on a 408 with axle oiled Johnson's. Makes more than enough oil pressure.
