Default Valve float

Hey guys what does vave float feel like when you are driving /racing? Sometimes when I race and I'm in 3rd getting ready to shift to fourth watching the rpms climb it kinda feels hesitent when i get to around 6600. It feels like it will not pass this rpm. Any Ideas guys? TIA

sounds like float to me. what kind of springs are you running and for how long? Have you put it on a dyno?

Patriot duals and yes I have put it on the dyno. I just installed long tubes and true duals though. Jeff tuned my car too.

Do you have a shift light or an aftermarket tach? The stock tach is notoriously slow, especially over 6k rpms... you might be hitting the rev limiter even though the stock tach only shows 6600 rpms.

true, but I dont think it is cutting out. I will pay closer attention at the track next time and try and figure it out.

Will it pull past 6600? If it will then its not your rev limiter, sounds like valve float,I didn:"t notice in your mods if you have headers and a good exhaust? If it pulls hard to 6600 then you might go quicker shifting at a lower rpm.what rocker arms do you have and what ratio?

Those Patriot dual springs should allow you to go past 6600 rpms without valve float... they're way stronger than 918s or other single springs.

Did you get the newer "gold" springs? I know there were a few problems with their older dual springs...

Yea they were gold on color, I have stock rockers. I guess I could just go out and rev my car steadily until it hits the limiter. I really need to get a shift light because I know that the stock tach is not up to the task. We will see I will try it tomorrow. I haven't lost any mph though, it is still pulling strong at the track. Wouldn't valve float hurt my HP?

Eric didt we talk about your tach when you were over here on Sunday? Get a shiftlight you tool! FWIW you know I have a shiftlight and an aftermarket tach in my car. At 6600 rpm in 3rd gear my factory tach is reading 6000 rpm!
Much worse in 2nd. It will take about 30 minutes at the most to put one in so go ahead n order one.

BTW I am running the same springs on a larger cam and it pulls all the way to 7000 where my limiter is set, I do have comp-r lifters tho. I shift at about 6700, Light is set at 6600.

Hey Ponykiln, shiftlight sounds like a good idea,Autometer is making one that has maybe 2 different colors one comes on before the actual shiiftlight comes on,sounds like a cool idea.
