Default Reccomend a lifter for me

Been a while, but im back looking for lifter advice. Im putting together a budget l33 with a vs racing s480 for my rcsb silverado. Sbe l33, stock 799 heads with arp studs, btr small bore ls9 gaskets, ss2 cam, btr pushrods, btr shaft rockers with their rocker bodies, and btr .660 springs with titanium retainers. I want good valvetrain control and dont really want to cheap out on lifters, but at the same time cant afford a set of johnsons. I doubt it will go much over 72-7300 rpm. Ive heard the lobes on that ss2 cam are soft, and with only .585 lift, would a ls7 lifter be enough, or should i look at something better. I only want to do this once, and will be measuring pr length.
Thanks

Morel 7717 lifters are decent at a decent price. They replaced the 6504 and 5315 lifters.

I think they are about $200 a set.

Buy a set of lifter trays while you are in there.

those were the ones i was looking at. How do those compare to a ls7 lifter? I just dont want alot of noise in the valvetrain or have to redo it because of a failure.

+1 for morel drop ins. My 6504s have been in about 25k miles. Shift at 7k with dual springs, 630lift and bigger valves than on the 799heads. So far so good, handled a few over-revs fine from an m6 car lol. If I remember they don’t call for a lot of preload but I set mine to .060 and they are pretty quiet. Above 7k idk if you’d be better off with link bar style. Either way I’ve been trouble free from mine with many hard miles

The lifters i was originally looking at were the caddy racing lifters, but ive heard those can be loud. The morel 5290's are around the same price, and wouldnt need the trays. Im not sure if they would work for me or not. It says they are only good for 6500 rpm's. I will need to be closer to 72-7300 with a 5.3 with 228° of intake duration and a tbss intake.

Ah yes I’m unsure of the caddy style or what they are based on..I think the 6504s are stated to have “6500rpm capability” most sing them to 7k with no issue and I’m sure people do that to all of them lol. Don’t quote me. But since it seems you’re trying to stay in a budget I will say what makes morel superior to ls7s is the axle retention and made out of better materials. I was in your shoes long time ago and If I recall what I read here on tech is that ls7 have a swedge loc design that will bounce and walk itself out at high rpm, while the morels use a different type of axle retention system. Either way it’s your money, a set of Ls7 lifters nearly cost me a motor when the axle wheel cracked in half, either from the lower end materials or the axle started to walk out idk..all I can remember is fishing a half busted lifter out of my cam bore...Upon searching I read that info about ls7 vs morels. Johnson’s may also use a different type of axle lock system. Either way I personally wouldn’t skimp on a relatively cheap but pretty important internal part after my experience. someone with a high rpm screamer hopefully will chime in for you. 7k Is as high I’ve purposely took my setup

At least at Summit, the Morels are not a lot more than the LS7 lifters, $210 compared to $197 for LS7. I call that a deal.

yeah, the summit ht217's are $210, the chevy perf 1249925 ls7's are 376, the caddy ones are almost 498 and the cam motion 5290 morel's are a few cents more. I think for that id go with the ht217/7717 over the ls7's. Idk.....lol. inflation is a beeotch.

Morel, from what I've seen and read around here, makes a pretty good lifter on its own, AND for the price.
I don't think that for what you're doing, you're shorting yourself at all. Best of all to you!

I agree about Morels being the better choice. That said, I've been running LS7 lifters with PAC dual springs with 165lbs seat pressure, and about 425lbs open. No issues in almost 8 years, 35,000 miles. YMMV........

Normally the LS7's look "good enough" to me, but for only $13 more, the Morels just look like a better deal.

If Morels are available for only around 80 cents more each, by all means, like Atsma said, jump on them!! I'd also like to add that even though I'm running LS7 lifters (supposed to be!), I am NOT happy about how they're shipped. They come in a big plastic bag, all thrown together. I've filed complaints with several vendors about this. With no box, there's no name brand! So who knows just what the Hell you're buying. Maybe I've been lucky.

I say go with the Morel 7717 lifters. I have the older version 5315 and no problems and they are also quiet. The preload is what @mstansbury0704 said .060 which is tighter than LS7 lifters.
