Default 408 truck build ??

Hi everyone, new guy here.
So, I'm having some issues with my first build. I'm burning qt of oil every two fill ups and recently having troubles starting. I only have 17k miles on it so I'm going to tear it down and start over.
Looking for expert advice because the last 8 months I went crazy buying stuff for the top end. I'm looking for advice on compatibility and things I'm missing in my build.

What is currently installed on the truck. Forged eagle crank, forged eagle rods, icon pistons, rest is pretty much stock.

Stuff I bought
317 Stage 2.5 PRC heads with dual springs milled .20, btr stage 2 truck cam 212-218/11+0, Btr chromoly push rods 7.4" 5/16 Dia .80wall, 1.7 rocker arms/ trunnion upgrade kit, tbss intake set up with 50lbs injectors and 92mm tb and xlink, performance hd timing chain, American racing headers 1 3/4 long tube headers jet hot coated, high flow oil pump.

Regarding the oil burning, when #5 valve seal went bad in my 99T/A, the car started burning a quart of oil every other fill up. New set of valve stem seals drop oil consumption to 1/2 quart every ~2,500 to 3,000 miles.

Haven't installed them yetBut can't wait too see what all the add ONs and a tune will do. I'm currently sitting at 275hp and 455 tq

I was wondering what would be the best lifters for this set up and looking for better design valve covers. Any ideas? Would be helpful

Take a peek at the Johnson 2001R's or Summit's name brand ones if you want to do something a little different than the LS7 ones. I really dig the Holley tall design covers, they have individual coil pack mounts on them so you don't have to deal with those ugly brackets. They also come in a bunch of different colors, or plain that you can have painted whatever color you like.

How does a 408 only make 275 hp? Does the motor have blue smoke coming out the exhaust? Like the other guy said maybe your valve seals are bad on your current heads.

Those numbers are at the wheels and the only thing I did was the lower end running on the stock upper and stock tune. That's why I only got those numbers

Just curious if you have the torque numbers? I would assume it made pretty good low speed power

Well I just purchased my cam. Cam motion custom ls cam 219/239 115 cam and ls7 lifters

I haven't seen too many rectangular port specific cams with that much split.
You normally see that in cams like the OEM LS7 and LS9 cams which are 211/230 with a 120 (LS7) or 122.5 (LS9) LSA.
It is more typical of a supercharger cam that needs lots of exhaust duration.

Keep in mind that when you do your new build, you can not make assumptions about blind headbolt holes. Porting 317 heads almost always goes through the side of a bolt hole somewhere. Without sealant when you bolt them on, you will likely suck oil through bolt holes. As for your current problem, My best guestimate would be a piston ring problem, but that really is a shot in the dark guess.
