Default Is it worth having a spare set of heads?

Long story short, through my job I have managed to acquire two pairs of 799 heads and a pair of 243 and 706 heads. My project L33 is running virgin 799 heads with a trunnion kit and valve job. Wondering if it's worth keeping any of these heads as a back up or if I should spend the winter rebuilding all four sets of head to sell in the spring?

I would be re-working the 706's with a mild porting, and put them on your engine, then sell all 243/799's as people will buy those still not realizing the 706's are really good for daily drivers.. I would take the 706 heads every time-UNLESS I was shooting for big hp #'s.. like over 500.. then it would be after-market heads at that power level anyway..

I picked up a good set of 706's with rockers, rocker stands & valve train at a local junkyard that are warrantied to be good to use for $200 last year. Same deal for 243/799's was $400 to $450 a pair.

Seems like that would be hard to make any $ on the 706's, maybe use them and sell the 243/799's.

My L33 is in a dedicated road-course and autocross track car that lives at +5000RPM's constantly. It's not 500 but it's north of 400whp except when I use a throttle body de-tune to qualify for a specific class in a club a I race in, and then it's only 320whp. Not sure if that changes anything. The right answer is probably selling all 5 sets of heads and buying a nice CNC head.

Whats so good about the 706 heads compared to the 806 98 ls1 perimeter valve cover heads? Someone i know has some cnc ported bigger valve older version tsp ported 706 heads. What about the stock 706s are better then 799s or 243s?
Id like to have a set of 799 or 243s with 64-66cc chambers for higher compression and head flow. Are the 706s just smaller chambers 62cc or something of that nature?
You can buy a set of already ported ones i think without core or katech i was looking into for porting with stock valves 500$ and aftermarket valves for an extra 15cfm flow for 1000$ and get stainless steel valves that hold up well to heat or nitrous atleast the exhaust valves.

Has anyone went with AI head ported advanced induction i think theirs were 1500$ i always questioned their heads porting being top of the line.
I had a set of lt1 lloyd elliot ported heads for an lt1 i picked up from a forum member for 400$ with dual springs i think valves but never go to run them. I sold my whole parts collection sbc scat i-beams .030 wiseco pistons and ported heads to purchase a 98 z28 and sold my 95 z28 lt1. Said theyre good to 375whp-400whp with big enough cam but 2 bolt main. I had lt4 block as well 4 bolt main but i think was .040 over if not required me go .60 if i did use it overheating cylinders was thinking nitrous lt1 engine but the ls1 is more advanced.

706's smaller chamber allows for more compression. With quality porting, VJ and bigger valves the 706's will generally make more power than the 806's, thanks to the smaller chamber.

What about the stock 706s are better then 799s or 243s?
706's are dirt cheap that's better. In some cases stock 706's make better power than a 243 due to the smaller chamber and higher velocity with small valves. However, put a 231/236 cam in an LS1 with stock 243's make more power vs stock 706's in the upper rpm etc. The 243's move more air stock vs stock.

Porting, VJ & bigger valves the 243's really shine having superior exhaust ports vs the 706's even after porting etc. 706's back in the day were the poor man's 243.

AI LSx CylinderHeads lot of interesting information and details.

Advanced Induction's heads are well proven making excellent hp and having quality machine work. A Top Tier player for porting an affordable stock casting. AI's customer service and communication is regarded as terrible by many folks because AI's doesn't answer the phone or reply to email in a timely manner. Best way to get Advanced Induction products is to work with a dealer like PCM of NC.

I have a set of Advanced Induction ported 241's that have welded chambers that are CNC'd into a better design than the stock 241 chamber. They appear to be good quality and worth the price etc. Haven't flow tested them yet etc.

Total Engine Airflow has outstanding ported stock heads as well. TEA's LS6/243's and 706's are A+++
