Lq4 build with 799 heads
Hey all I'm new to the ls world and late I know but any help suggestions and info is greatly appreciated. I'm Ballin on a budget.... somewhat. I'm swapping the 6 0 into a 94 impala and would like a decent amount of power around 500-550 na. Will have supporting mods such as 1 7/8 headers fast intake. Now there's a guy on youtube that says with a stock ly6 and stock 799 heads cam and springs only and dorman intake he got 522 to the crank. His name is Richard Holdener. Is there anyone that can confirm this that has done it or even made bigger power? Using 799-243 what na power have you guys made what valve job what size valves what cam and springs what rockers. Again any and all help is very appreciated thank you

Thank you @gagliano7 . I wasn't discrediting him if it seemed that way. It's the comp 54-459-11 cam which I plan on using. I was more curious if anyone else has seen 500 plus on cam springs and intake only.

As you probably already know, the dyno tested 522 hp crank that RH got would be less tested to the same SAE standards the OEM's used to rate horsepower. The OEM's would have mechanical water pump and all accessories, manifolds, etc. One the stock LS1's RH test made 410+ hp crank (IIRC) but in car same stock LS1's were ~300 wheel hp or so.
With the Fast intake, adding an aftermarket cam will really wake up that 6.0. Ported head nice addition too.

FYI, the 317 LQ9/LQ4 heads and the 243/799 LS6/LS2/5.3 H.O. heads use the same port cores, the only difference is combustion chamber size. So all things being equal, the only difference should be compression ratio. If you are just swapping heads onto a running shortblock, it will gain you about a half point in compression ratio to run the 243/799 heads. With a decent cam, you'll see about 475-480 HP. Keep in mind, when Richard Holdener tests engines, they have electric water pumps, no accessories, and run specific correction factors. With the engine installed in the car, 475-480 HP is more realistic.

Richard Holdener is A++ and outstanding in sharing his information with the automotive community. 👍

@l67turbo So as of now I'm waiting on the 54-459-11 cam to show up and about to send off the heads to TSP/PRC to have ported. As far as the rotating assembly it's either spend money or don't, I want flat tops with valve relief but can't find any with the correct wrist pin size to fit my stock rods which is pushing me to the 6.125 rods but that's another grand for both without doing the crank. So building on budget kind of has me stuck especially after the fellas made me realize that I probably won't hit my 500 mark I know it's 20 25 less but it's what I want so now looking at trying to swing for tfs 225s to get me there. It's a rabbit hole it's a money pit and I don't have money like everybody else lol plus I'm trying to get this done befor summer so we will see what happens.
