I'm going to bring up something I posted about before-
Comp has a series of 50 state legal LS cams for Gen III and IV LS engines. Some for AFM/DOD and VVT.
The spec for Gen III is 210/218, .570/.541, 118 LSA. No tuning necessary is claimed, nor is it allowed in Cali.
I would like to know how a guy pulling out his stock (191/190, .457/.466 114 LSA) 5.3 cam is NOT needing a tune for a cam that adds 19 intake degrees.
I don't see how it will be even close to running right.
I would 100% not own anything post 75 and motor swap it to an LS LOL.

And nothing before 75 had catalytic converters, so it's open season with any of the older cars anyway....

1975 light duty trucks/Blazers, etc., also didn't require cats, but all cars did, afaik. My new 1975 Chevy Blazer had no cat. Gary, you're very knowledgeable about California smog laws. Wouldn't a 50 state legal, including California, FI setup, like an A&A blower, be the way to go for California hot rodders? The closed loop tune would be stock, I assume, and only the open loop/WOT tune would need to be altered. Do they test closed loop only? Or does the fact that the open loop tune has been altered automatically fail the smog? Thanks, Gary.

I have friends with LS swapped pre 76 cars that have had cops tell them if they wanted to they could state ref them because they installed an engine that originally came with smog equipment and they’re missing it.

I wish this state would do like Nv, any car 20+ years old can be registered as a collector/antique car, require no smog but can only be driven 5k miles a year.

That will never happen though and the only real solution is to move.

OP

Your fast 92 should have a Carb EO number so no need to sand. Also TFS 205 and 220 heads have a EO number for Carb. What I cant tell you is if those two things can work with the comp cam and still run off a stock tune with no lights.

Do you have family where you loved from? What are the registration requirements there? Might be easier to just reregister there and drive it here. If you don’t drive it a lot you should be fine.

I ran a SBC 383 with 210cc heads and a 218/228 on a 108 LSA under the L31 intake with an 0411 on a stock tune when I had to for the last 2 years for smog in Texas. The stock cam in my 350 was 191/196 on a 111. Ran and drove fine and the fuel trims were not even that far off. Texas also pulls the VIN and calibration check sums and have for several years. Unsupported monitors that should be Ready are also an instant fail here.

Yea i was looking into that and saw that fast 92 has a cab eo # . Bought mine years ago, didnt even kmow they had a carb # till now, guess id have to contact fast and have them send me the carb e.o. sticker if not the smog sees the intake with the words "fast" on it and fail me 😅. Would you happen to know someone Personally running that comp cams on or afr heads on a stock tune passing? If just hate to go through the trouble of buying and installing all these carb legal parts for it to not run right because of the stock tune.
All family is in cali, they're all biannual smog too 😒

If you can't get the sticker, just bring documentation that it is exempt. Unless you have proof of purchase, they might refuse to send a sticker.

Great another hurdle to go through if i cant get the carb sticker 😅. Luckily i still have my oem ls6 intake might just put it back on to give them less reason to look at my car in disgust when i go smog it. Ill probably be rebuilding my original motor back to stock this summer and throwing in that comp cams fsl CARB approved cam untuned and see how that goes, i have yet to hear of anyone running it so i guess ill be a pioneer of sorts.

I don’t know anyone running that cam personally.

Enjoying the hobby here is definitely a chore.
