Default Should I worry about this Piston

Im rebuilding my first LS engine (2001 LQ4) and as I was cleaning the carbon off of a piston I noticed a small pit on the surface. Do I need to worry about it? Can I still use it? If not what are my options?

Thanks for reading my post!!!

That depends, What are you doing with the engine?

You can also source another used piston.

I'm not positive it's a problem. Possibly smooth any rough edges with small file or emery cloth.

I’m using engine to go into a project car.

if I get another used piston, do I need to worry about being compatible with cylinder wear. I am honing cylinders.

I'd be more concerned about running a used set of pistons if it were me but if P-W clearance is within spec's I suppose it would be okay.

I agree. I definitely would have to check clearance with a used piston.

I would take a dremel with a small carbide burr on it. The one with straight sides and rounded tip (not the one with a small ball on the end) and just smooth and blend it out a little.

Looks like a casting flaw from the factory???
