Default Engine, Tranny or TC

Hi,

I'm running an LS1/4L60E in my Cobra. The car is only newly rebuilt and I'm currently running in a newly rebuilt LS1.

It was running fine until recently. However, lately I've run into a problem. I can take off fine and it seems to change into second and third gears ok. But if I ease up on the accelerator and then put my foot down again, the car won't pick up. I can hear the engine revs increase, but it doesn't want to go?

I'm not sure where to go from here - is it an engine problem or a problem with the transmission or perhaps an issue with the TC?

I don't think its a problem with the engine itself, as it seems to be revving ok. So thinking its a tranny or TC issue. Any help appreciated.

Sounds like a tranny issue. Does it "catch" once you let off?

Starting to think its a tranny issue. It seems to go through the gears until it get to third. Then it will sometimes just seem to 'drop' out of gear as I'm accelerating. Other times it won't drop gear until I ease off the throttle and then reapply it. But it doesn't seem to completely drop gear. Car still moves but I can here the engine revving and there is not much power happening.

Seems to get worse as the engine heats up. Not sure if that's relevant......

The tranny heats up as the engine does....

I've read that a faulty TPS can cause issues when changing from 1st to 2nd. Maybe a 'flat' spot on the TPS could cause problems when changing from 2nd to 3rd?

Further update:
I just pulled some codes off the PCM. I found a P1810 code which indicates a faulty transmission pressure switch. I think this could explain the shifting problems.
The fix seems to be replacing the pressure switch. It means pulling the transmission pan and replacing the switch which is held in place by 5 bolts.

Its a messy job - need to drain the transmission fluid, but I guess it could have been worse if the problem was buried further into the tranny. Hopefully this will fix the issue.

Could also be the switch is fine, and reporting low pressure. One thing is certain. You have an issue. Plus, the stock 4L60E isn't known as the rock of Gibraltar of transmissions!! If it isn't corrected, soon, the trans may fail. READ: EXPENSIVELY!!

After dealing with FOUR 4L60E's in one year, I can bet its 100% your transmission. More specifically, the pump. I went thru the same headache, and the pump was leaking pressure. I ditched the transmission and went with a built 4L80E, problem solved! I will never waste my time and money on a 4L60E if it will be going into a project car, or behind a modified LS. They're only good stock, with stock engine. As soon as power is increased, it is a ticking time bomb.
