So, we picked up 91 numbers with the new heads, cam, valvetrain, fresh ported 102 for good measure, rps clutch, and went to 1 7/8" headers

Check out the specs on the back of that cam.....turns out your old regrind cam is very close in duration to the new cam I just ground for you....I thought that was interesting!

I think what might be more impressive than the HP gains is the 76 RWTQ gains you saw with the exact same displacement and without a giant increase in compression also!

Really hoping you get to drive the car soon....must be frustrating to be this close and its still hands off....LOL

Idle sounded healthy....not "lopey" or lazy at all.....more of a crisp cackle and you can almost hear the cylinder pressure even at an idle.....the rip on the dyno sounded good also but you could tell it was cut off early!

Tony

Congrats Tony & Owner!
Those are fantastic results with such a small cam (the smallest to crack 500 NA
on a 5.7 pump gas that I ever remember here on tech.

That same engine & clutch in a C5 with 3.42s & factory wheels would be 515+
That is Crazy!

Looking forward to owners impressions.

These results are what happens when you have a master headwork and port work guy like Tony finding a way to increase flow with smaller ports! I have never seen anyone as good as Tony is in doing this. Think about this. Similar to going to a smaller main jet in a carburetor (remember those, lol!), but getting more fuel thru the smaller "hole." Amazing, really.....

I've been saying for years 500whp with a 5.7 should be pretty easy. We made 451whp/423wtq with a bolt on ls6 and pump gas through a 9". Idk why it's such a struggle for some.....poor tuning, not paying attention to detail and maybe just don't want to spend the $. But it's not really that difficult.

We just made almost 550whp with my rebuilt 5.7....little more compression....little more cam (Darthv8r old 5.7 cam) and it's entirely doable.

This seems like a good build too.

Tony, what are the lifts on this 229/235, 114 cam and who grinds them for you?

Custom cam I spec thru Comp Cams using some of their more modern low and mid shock lobe designs

.650 ish lift but the opening and closing rates are easier on springs etc. and provide good valve control if your keeping an eye on valve weight and the right seat and open spring pressures

These heads come with hollow stem 2.080 valves that are similar in weight to the 1.600 solid stem (much smaller) exhaust valve

I have the car back from the tuner now. We cleaned and flowed the injectors, tried a different set of coils, but finally found the problem when we put new plug wires on. They weren't old, but who knows. Anyway, here are the final numbers. 525hp and 462lbft. I guess you really can gain 20hp with plug wires. Who would have thought? I'll add some driving impressions once I get some miles down. Thanks again Tony!

Right. At least till 7k..it was still making power.

Man, this is a pretty killer LS1 for such a modest hyd roller cam.

I got it from 6le designs. It's the only one that I've found to fit over the 102. I think he goes by iroc motorsports now.
