Cam Recommendations, Iron 383
You've already received some excellent advice from the community. After reviewing your setup and goals, we recommend looking at our SUM-8715R1 "Ghost Cam." Here are the specs: .600/.575 lift, 222/234 duration, 115+3 LSA, and -2° overlap.
While it’s smaller than what we’d typically suggest for a 383, your focus on "under the curve" performance and drivability makes this cam a great fit. Its 43° intake valve closing (IVC) @ .050 is a key factor—it plays a significant role in setting the powerband. Generally, an earlier IVC means power comes in and ends sooner, which aligns well with your stated goals. Other valve events and your overall engine combo also influence this. For drivability, the -2° overlap will make it very user-friendly.This cam has been a popular choice among our customers, delivering excellent results across a wide range of setups—from 5.3s to 408+ builds. It performs exceptionally well in naturally aspirated, turbocharged, and supercharged applications alike. Pair it with a .600" lift beehive or .660" dual springs, and you’ll be set. Since your PRC-prepped 706 heads likely came with suitable springs, you may already be good to go, but we wanted to mention this just in case.
We also agree with the suggestions to re-evaluate your intake and exhaust. While we understand the aesthetic appeal of a single-plane intake, if you’re open to sacrificing some horsepower and torque under 4,500 RPM, sticking with it is fine. However, a FAST LSXR or LSXRT intake would be a much better match for your combo. Even better, they’re currently on sale at 10% off! Additionally, upgrading to a 3” dual exhaust, as others have suggested, would provide noticeable benefits.
Hope this helps, and feel free to reach out with any additional questions or updates on your build!
