Default LS1 as good as LS6 in 99 Trans Am

I've got a 99 trans am with an ls1. I want to built it to be a rowdy high revving NA machine. I've heard the LS6 handles revs better and I'm curious what to do to the LS1 to make it as good or better without blowing stupid money. From what I've read the 01+ ls1 and ls6 use the same block and bottom end internals(other than cam) But obviously mines not 01+. From the research I've done it seems the main difference on the pre 01 motors in crankcase ventilation and maybe the LS6 rotating assembly is better balanced? Valley cover seems to be a common swap to take care of the crankcase ventilation. Assuming I do that swap and maybe get internals balanced would I basically have an LS6 bottom end. I have a "stage 3" tsp cam and LS6 intake and I plan to run 243 heads with dual springs. Aiming for a 7k+ limiter on stock rotating assembly, maybe lightweight flywheel and crank pulley.

any gen 3 bottom end over 7k for an extended period of time isnt going to be happy, ls6 or ls1, but why do you need to be over 7k? do you know if that cam even peaks over that? i doubt it does

LS6 blocks have "windows" around the main cap webbing to allow air to move around in there better. Down side of that is, it weakens the block somewhat. TAANSTAFL.

RB04av, idk what that abbreviation stands for! Please enlighten!! To the OP-The '99-'00 LS1 block is the stronger block. Good starting point. Either put some ported OEM 243s on it, or scrounge around for some AFR 225s. I sold a pair of freshened (by Tony himself) 225s with new AFR 8019 dual springs about 10 years ago for $1,800. Used market hasn't inflated that much since 2014. Heads are where the power is made. It's never stupid money running the best heads you can afford. I'd much rather have a great set of CNC'd heads with, say, a 220° is cam than have a 240°+ duration cam on a set of stock heads.....

I'm guessing you're not a Robert Heinlein fan.

Pointless to spin 7K rpm when the components on a stock L1 or LS6 for that matter will run out of steam before even reaching 6500 rpms. Spin it yes but probably zero gains from doing so but put the right H/C/I combination paired with a good exhaust and you can make power all the way to 7K.

Fast, Reliable, Cheap

Pick two.

If you love horsepower and racing then you have to hate $100 bills.

If the bottom end is healthy, 7000 rpm should be fine. I don't think I would push it beyond that though.
