Valve seals for dual valve springs?
Never mind. I had to read this a few times trying to figure out what seals DON'T go under the springs??! Now I see you're talking a seal/spring washer assembly. Sorry for goofing your thread......Last edited by grinder11; Oct 7, 2025 at 01:38 PM.
I didn't ask about "machining". I asked about PORTING. And not necessarily anything "he" might have done, as it might have been done before he got it.
Reason being, the intake rocker bolt holes protrude through the casting very close to the intake ports; and even very light port work, or even just sometimes normal metal fatigue, will often expose them. Then, you get EXACTLY the same results as bad valve guide seals: a direct connection between the intake ports and the crankcase, except that instead of around the valve stems, the oil comes in down the rocker bolt threads.
Note that I'm NOT saying "his seals are fine"; NOT saying "don't change the seals"; NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT. Please don't any of you keyboard warriors put words like those into my mouth (keyboard) Only, that seals aren't the only thing that can cause this, and that if The Problem is REALLY that the rocker bolt holes are exposed, then he can change his seals every day, and twice on Sundays just for good measure, and his motor will STILL burn oil.
Have him try putting sealer on those bolt threads before getting all wound up about seals. May work, may not; butt if it does, he just saved himself AHELLUVALOTTA grief. The Loctite/Permatex "hi-temp automotive thread sealer with PTFE"; NOT silicone of any kind. And if he DOES need seals, how about these. https://www.autozone.com/external-en...039/579295_0_0
