#8 lifters arent pumping up.
I guess. Ive been chasing down a knock.
which we thought were the lifters. So I replaced them
with the cranes. Then the knock is still there.
So today I pull the #6 and #8 rockers and pushrods.
and the knocks gone. So I put #6 back together, and It all sounds good no knocking. Then I put #8 intake in, start it up, and its knocking, So I remove the intake, and put in the exhaust, and it has a slight knock, not to bad. Now this is the same cylinder that I heard the knock from in the first place, that made me replace the lifters. Any Ideas guy's? Im lost.
all we can think of is to pull the heads agian, and look around, and see if somthing is blocking the oil. Any sugestions ?
By the way its not valves, pushrods, springs, or rockers. they were all replaced, at the same time as the lifters.

Start the motor with the pass side valve cover off. It will run on four cylinders. Watch the rocker arm and valve spring on number 8, and see if oil is being pumped up through the pushrod. It will run over the spring. If you have oil, it's not a lifter. Is your oil pressure good at startup?

LonSlo
Ya Ill try that tommorow.
I have great oil pressure, even more than my fathers 02 Z28.
Ya Bill I cant wait to get a run in.
I know it has 134 traps in it. I just have to get this stupid knock figured out first.

I might be wrong but it sounds like a piston to valve issue. Might want to do a check on that one cylinder and see. Hope you find the problem soon would like to see you run.

Re: #8 lifters arent pumping up.
Hate to mention this but last time we tracked down the mysterious knock was on a turbo supra with nos and found after tearing down the engine completely that it was a broken wrist pin on one piston. Car didn't run any different but just had a knock. Hope this isn't your problem, but just a thought.

Ya Mike,
Thats what we are thinking.
I guess we are gonna pull the motor next week and take a look around. It'll be a good time to forge the bottom end.

Re: #8 lifters arent pumping up.
Maybe a casting flaw in the block that is restricting oil flow to that lifter. If everything else has been changed then we are really left with not a lot of possibilities. I wish I could be of more help, but p/v clearance would have been my initial guess as well.
