Default Cam for Stock Exhaust & LS6 Manifold

What cam for this setup?

99 LS1, M6, 3.73 gears, LS6 manifold, Ported Throttle Body, Custom intake setup (4”pipe with a big air filter), Stock heads w/ 3 angle valve job from a local (Alpharetta, Ga.) ASA shop, Stock Exhaust, No Cat’s, No EGR, No AIR. Total weight is 2400 lbs. full tank, but no driver.

I think I’m backwards on this, but here goes. Because I have a better than stock intake system, but stock exhaust I should go with something like a 218 222 to help with the exhaust side.

Am I wrong about this? Would the reverse be more efficient because it takes advantage of the intake capabilities?

Space will not permit headers any larger than shorties so I’ll just stay stock, but an X and true dual's is OK.

No emission requirements and I don’t mind a rough idle. Suggest any spring, retainer, and cam combos you think fits this.

with stock manifolds or shorties, I'd definitely go for more exhaust duration. With emissions and idle not being an issue, go bigger. I'd look at 226/232 112 +2 on XE-R lobes. You'll need 918s or double springs (may need work to fit).

Dale, I had stock manifolds, stock cats, stock mufflers, and I went with a reverse split and made 393rwhp with heads. Once I did headers and tuning I went to 415rwhp, so i bet with tuning i could have gotten 400rwhp with stock manifolds and that reverse split.

Why it works like that I have no idea, but the cam seemed perfectly fine with the stock manifolds. It was a thunder racing 227/224 on a 114lsa btw, drives great, sounds like stock through all the stock exhaust. Very fun sleeper.

Seifer I'm guessing he isnt doing headers as its some sort of custom job like an LS1 in a car thats not normally an ls1. Thats what I got from the post.

Thanks for the input! Believe me I'd love to do some exhaust work, but there just isnt enough room. The frame is right next to the starter and oil filter, so only custom headers would work. Thats why I'm asking about this.

Anybody else?

2,400 lbs <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> . What did you shoehorn this LS1 into? May be get some shortie MACS or Bassani headers and like said above a bigger cam......226-9°/ 230-4° sounds nice to me. Then again it might also like a reverse split cam.

It's a Sebring MX kit. Here's a pic from a couple of weeks ago when I was trial fitting the front clip.

JMX:

you made good power with the reverse split on stock manifolds, but I wonder if you would have seen more power with a 226/232 114 +4. I realize that you gained a better idle but I think Geoff noted that the Reverse split may not be ideal for max power, rather it provides very good power for a given drivability goal on cars with a good exhaust.

Dale: That's going to be a wild ride! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />
At that weight level, you could go with a more sleeper cam like you were originally considering and still have a wicked ride. Maybe 222/226 114 +2 would be a good compromise. I had originally assumed 2400 lbs was a typo and you meant 3400.
