Question Another heads question.

I have a 2004 GTO and I was looking for new heads. I was going to buy the LS6/Z06 heads and install them.

My question is What do you guys recommend?

Should I buy LS1 heads and try and find a place to CNC machine them?

Should I buy aftermarket heads? Patroit, AFR, ETC?

What should I look for when I buy heads?

I would like the keep the CR under 10.8.

I dont want anything to wild since I will have to do emission testing and it isnt a race car.

Thanks for the help.

depends on what your budget is?

if it was me i would get some AFR's 205cc or TEA LS6 heads
a small cam.... 220/220 .560/.560 114 somthing like that?
good pushrods and ARP bolt kit... around $3,400

or a patriot h/c package from TEXAS SPEED ....stage2 5.3 heads
and a similar cam GM bolts good pushrods.......$1,900

i would definitly go with an established head company, but if your just talkin about doin heads you might not wanna waste your money as that is not the main restriction on the ls1.

Well since the car has less then 4000 miles on it i dont want to void the warranty just yet. Thats why I was looking at the LS6 heads. The dealer told me that if they install the heads and cam they would honor the warranty.

Also if I get another pair of LS1 heads and have them p/p, the dealer wouldnt know either.

You won't pick up enough hp with stock ls6 heads to justify the cost of the swap over ls1 heads.Maybe do the cam????What about the exhaust system?Theres a write up in the new Pontiac magizine on the swap with dyno #'s they said the stock system isn't as good as it looks.Just my 2 cents????

I have a SLP 2.5" system on its way and I wont do headers until I do the head upgrade.

Rumor has it GM is going to be offering the LS6/Z06 head/cam combo as part of an autocross package.

I'm waiting to see what happens with that rumor. If the rumor isnt true then I want a good head/cam package.

Besides the GTO isnt my daily driver so I have all the time in the world.

I understand, about warranty and all, just hate to see you spend money for little improvement, the package deal may be good though.

Why would you do that to your new car? And another thing to consider; just because that dealership said they would honor it does not mean your warranty is not void. Any other dealership would probably tell you they didn't install it, so get lost.
