Just got done with grinding, and mounting the valley in place. 11 ft lbs for the knock sensors, is that right? Seems low, but I put them in like that anyway, Straight clean with no loctite. Is that right?

I didn't use any locktite, correct.

And the GM manual I have is kinda odd on the knock sensor torque. On one page it says its 15lbft, and on another it says 11lbft.

I used 11lbft on my install and it's been fine. I dont think a few lb ft will make too much of a difference here. You could split the difference and try 13

Everyone calls him Jim. Jim-X, Big Jimmy, James, Uncle Jimmy. Yet noone knows his real name is Jeff. I have suggested he become jfX.

He hasnt done it yet.
And he needs more hot women in the pictures of his HowTos.

"Here Jessica has to bend all the way over in order to get a good grip on the wrench."

"Tanya is working so hard on this head bolt she has gotten very sweaty and needs to take off her shirt."

"Here some guy takes a rest from the motor swap and gets a lap dance."

You know what Im saying... right Jeff?

...here I go again, but, "years ago", it was very difficult to obtain good information on car mods. This meant that each person was their own pioneer.
Thanks to you jmX for laying it all out. Teaching is an art, and you hold the skill!
And, thanks anyway to your contributors, but I can do without "Tanya". I've got my own!!!

Visceral, you freak!

Horist, gmag, magnus, thanks!

Tin Indian, I'm not sure what exactly you are talking about. LS6 valve covers are different, you are correct, but the drivers side LS6 valve cover is exactly like an LS1 valve cover, except it has a $2 plastic plug stuck in the hole.

The passenger side is different however, because it doesnt have a rear pipe outlet.

Now, i've tried a PCV setup with just pulling vacuum from the rear drivers side port, and it still sucked in plenty of oil along with it. The baffling just doesnt seem to do the trick because the oil must be somehow mixed with the air in the valve covers. In the engine valley, its a LONG way away from the oil so there's less oil in the air as far as I can tell.

If it works for you, thats cool though.

Ron,

Ron, that is incorrect. I think you have misconceptions about what an LS6 PCV system is. The LS6 system only pulls vacuum from the valley cover, not from either valve covers. LS6's come with a plug in the rear of the drivers side valve cover. So yes, I'm only drawing air from the valley cover, just like every LS6 out there on the road today. That is what my modification details. An LS6 doesnt have a PCV hose thats any longer than about 5 inches, just like my writeup shows. There's nothing running to the back of the motor or either valve cover, except the fresh air hose going from the front of the passenger side valve cover to the throttle body.

SMOKINV8, I really don't know the answer to that question. I doubt it'd get rid of oil consumption totally, but maybe it'd help (just like the LS6 setup does). I don't think anybody is gonna know unless they measure use before and after over a long period of time. Sounds like something you can try

Wicked98z, Seifer, thanks.

Jon, if I were to do this. Could I put my oil catch can inline of the new PCV line? I.E.

Port on valley cover ---> input on catch can ---> output on catch can --->back of PCV ---> Intake mainfold

Yes, you can do that. Lots of the corvette guys do that. They usually use an air compressor filter and put it inline. It'll still catch some oil.

jmX...

I just deleted all my other posts regarding all this. I don't want to confuse people here. I read through your install procedures. All I can say is; Again, you wrote a very concise and easy to understand document. Another atta boy for you!

One question: Why would they even put that hole in the LS6 drivers side rear cover if it just gets blocked off and not used in the LS6?

BTW, I am going to pull the TB off my car. If my modified PCV system is letting oil into the intake, I am going to buy the parts and again, use your how-to (used it for my head/cam change)

Thanks,

So, let me get this straight in my mind. The front port on the passenger side valve cover is the intake vent. The only outlet is the new nipple on the LS6 valley cover. So, Instead of plugging the old drivers side rear, a filtered vent could be placed there and the passenger side front could be plugged, along with the port on the manifold.

Is this right?

Great write-up, just like all the other's on your site JON.

I'm curious about a related issue though. Would the taller valve covers (or valve cover spacers like TR offers) cure the oil consumption problem more-so than the LS6 PCV conversion? I've never read any definitive answers on that one.

The intake is now dry as a bone. Also instead of pugging the holes at the back of each valve cover , I just took a piece of hose and ran it from one to the other .
