Question Pinging at part throttle?

I have not been 100% pleased with my car since I modded it earlier this year.
The car "feels" strong, but I think it should run faster.

I have ordered Auto Tap, so in the next week I plan on being able to log some runs.

In the mean time, I noticed something tonight...When I tapped the throttle (less than half throttle) around 35 mph in 3rd with the converter locked, I could hear what sounded like pinging or detination on the initial hit of the throttle.

Any ideas what this could be or what I need to be looking at on Auto Tap when I hook it up?

Thanks!

Why? Many other guys have run this same set up, no issues with tune.

Sounds like a problem with throttle tip-in...The car needs to be tuned. Each car CPU reacts differently to mods.

How much of a problem is this & is hurting the engine and or the performance?
I will get a tune, but since I live in Iowa, I have to plan on a road trip to get it done...

My truck has done that since day one... it sounds exactly like a small amount of detonation, but it's not. Nothing is logged.

I get tons of KR elsewhere, but that's another story.

Yes you need tuning. Your just putting too much load on the engine at low RPM's. Mine does it only when it is hot outside and I have the A/C on. But it only does it at low RPMs with converter locked as well.

are you sure you hear ping and not just the exhaust going down the header tubes? You will hear a little tingle sound usually after putting headers on, since the tubes are thinner you actaully hear the exhaust going down them. Maybe someone else can explain better..

ping will sound like its rocks tinging around in your headers. I had to try a few different tune son mine since some had to much part throttle timing and mine pinged so much i couldnt handle it. WOT it was fine, just when the verter locked and on light throttle it would ping.

bad gas could cause it also.. since its hot out, the weather doesnt to wonders for our car.

That's probably what I noticed with my truck... except mine sounds like a low gurgling noise. It happens just before the converter unlocks or the tranny downshifts. I can cruise up a mild hill making the noise, and no KR will be logged.

I am not totally sure it is pinging, you can only hear it for a split second, I hope it is not. I will be logging some runs middle of next week & hoping to get some tuning set up in the near future.
