BBC engines can run 1.8's sometimes, and they have Heavy valvetrain.

Must have something to do with the diameter of the springs.

A larger but still beehive spring is what Id like, seems to help with spring surge/float ALOT. Can you get a beehive with a second internal spring, no way all that would fit under anythign stock? Comp has a 1.46 OD beehive I beleive.

I think settings up the springs a little different may help, intakes needing bit more seat pressure to control the closing, and the exhaust (if your running slower exhaust ramps like i like to) less needed on the seat, but more over the nose maybe.

This engine has way to many spring failures compared to other markets, hell BBC marine engines running 4000 and 5000 rpm all day long will last 30K miles based on the hours they run.

If anyone has any specific questions you want asked, either post them or PM me. Thursday the 26 is no racing so I may log on that day with him.

I think the LS1 people have much more to work with than the Ford people and aren't afraid to do it. Maybe they're just all crazy like the Australians and J-Rod aka Cam Dundee! The Ford people are scared of EVERYTHING it seems and yet at our shop were putting .600+ lift cams and springs in 99 model untouched LS1s with stock longblocks and turning them 7000 rpm and gaining 110 at the wheels. Ford guys only dream about stuff like that. I still like the Ford stuff but you can't compare that market because most of those guys are very granny like.

That sounds like their BBC spring (xx120??). It looks good except that the install height is 1.880", so you need longer valves or trick retainers or keepers. I was told it is a bad idea to try to cut the 0.080" out of the head. I would love to see a drop in beehive at 150/350 lbs.
