Going to do oil change on my car this weekend. i believe the car has Mobil 1 5w-30 but wasn't the first owner. i was wondering what oil do most of you guys use. i was thinking either Royal Purple 5w-30 or Mobil 1 5w-30. or toss in your own opinions. my car has 40K miles on it currently.
I would go with an oil a bit thicker than M1 5w-30. I would highly recommend German Syntec. It's the best oil for the money. My oil analysis using this oil was outstanding. I believe that you will get lower wear using this oil instead of the M1. You can only purchase it at AutoZone. It must say Made in Germany on the back.
Mobil 1 is an excellent oil. Many high performance cars get factory filled with it. Corvette, Porsche, Mercedes AMG, Viper... I'm sure Porsche and Mercedes wouldn't just throw anything in some of their $100k + cars.
If money is no object you could even use Amsoil. It looks to be superior to Mobil 1, although I just use Mobil 1 since it works well and it's less expensive. I've also heard good things about the German syntec, but no first hand experience. Which ever you choose you can't go wrong they're all great oils.
Just please DON'T go out and buy a case of pennzoil and a fram... I don't want to have to punch you in the face

I'll third the German 0W30 Castrol, it's been getting some pretty good results especially considering it's a over the counter oil. If you want to stay with M1,,, try their 0W40 or if your climate is warm enough, their newly relabled Delvac 1 {relabled Truck and SUV 5W40}. Delvac is right up there with the best oils out there I believe.
Any of those oils mentiened are fairly easy to find and their price is reasonable. As far as which one is the best,,,, you could pretty much throw a blanket over all of them, they are that close in performance.

I started using German Castrol 0w30 in my family's cars back in March 2003, and in every car I've switched, the oil analysis results got much better, most noticeably this oil drastically lowers the lead wear (which is bearings)

Is there a place online that I can order the German Castrol 0w30? I've called all over Hawaii, and NO ONE carries this particular brand of Castrol. I'd like to use it at my next oil change.
