Default Head/cam HP down?

Why would a car with ported heads a cam, intake, bolt ons, throttle body and all the goodies make under 400 at the wheels? Is it possible he didn't put something back together right? Like the rockers, or lifters, or something? Oh it's an A4 with 3200 stall (I think) and a 10 bolt. They are PP LS6 heads and a 224 cam.

If this is Tom's car, then he has a 12bolt with 4.30s and its an M6, PPLS6 style 5.3l heads and the G5x2 cam.

well alot of people just throw off the shelf stuff together w/o really putting together a combo. they never flow there heads, degree or spec there cam to even see if what there installing is even what they bought, valvetrain geometry is often ignored, ect.

I agree. I was thinking this cam is all wrong for the PP LS6 stage 2 heads. I didn't know if he installed anything wrong it would work but still cost him horsepower?

My 382 stroker only put 399rwhp/412rwtq to the ground. Reasons are a low 10.61:1 CR (I'm running 91 octane) and a small 224/.560/112 cam with slow ramp rates. When the engine was built, my main goals were reliability and driveability over maximum possible output. I also have a Moser 12 bolts, steel driveshaft and dual friction clutch that do account for a greater loss through the drivetrain.

My base numbers when the car was bolt-on where 299rwhp/310rwtq, so I may had a weaker LS1 to start with.

On the other hand, my torque curve is almost linear from 2500 to 5500 rpm. I'm making around 380rwtq at 2500 rpm. So, even if my numbers aren't that great, the car IMO is perfectly suited for street use on a daily basis. The low HP figure is due to the torque curve really plunging past 5500 rpm.

So, even if I don't have the strongest stroker of the world (far from it), I'm still pleased with the result cause it's perfectly suited for my application. I can run pump gas, still pass emissions, and I won't have to change spring every 10K miles.

Holy ****....a 382 only puttin down just shy of 400. I'm glad you're happy with it man, and that it suits your goals. I know if I had laid down the cash for a stroker, I'd have at least a 23x cam in there, if not more, and be targeting 450+ before a power adder. I guess I just crave more power

Yeah, the numbers are below my expectations (I was hoping for 420rwhp/430rwtq), but I don't regret my cam choice, and I would probably even go with a 114lsa if I had to do it again (sorry but I'm not really into big lopey cams for street cars). I wanted a trouble-free sleeper package and that 112lsa is still too noticeable for my taste. The only thing I regret is the 10.61:1 CR. I probably should have gone with 11.0:1-11.3:1 but at the time I was really upset with pinging with our crappy 91 octane here. So, I took the safe route.

Now, if I had to build a DRAG ONLY car running on race gas, I'd go a totally different route. It would be a 12.x:1 CR forged 347 with a much bigger cam and a lots of nitrous .
