395ci in and running
i finally got my car from the shop. it sounds pretty sweet. i went with a lunati 395cid stroker, comp cams 240/244 609/612@113. i have about 200mils on the set-up. all i need now is some bigger injectors and a custome tune. i plan on spraying at least a 175-200 wet shot. i can't wait til it broken in and i can start haulin ***!

Oh, another question: I notice that you have a 395 CID stroker. Not too many people have those; for the most part I only see LS1's with 38x CID strokers. Is there a reason why the others go with the smaller stroke? Is this a new kit or something?

395 kits usually burn oil
mine burns a quart an oil change
my 395 went 102mph in the 1/8 and that was about 25hp ago

i was gonna go with a 382, but i got talked into the bigger cubes. probably 0hp difference but a little more torque.

Are all 395's guaranteed to burn oil? Are there any other disadvantages? Cost differences? I would imagine that IS a pretty steep angle... is the Lunati designed to handle that?
Abate, does yours burn oil, or is it too early to tell?

As far as the 395 being new to the market, you'd be surprised how long they've been around.

Abate, that's good to hear. I'm still waiting for my broken arm to heal so I can start assembling mine. I went with the same kit (10.6 CR pistons) and Lunati 009 Cam. I'm also debating between 36# and 42# injectors. What injectors are you running right now? Is you car running the stock programming? No tune at all?
Thanks,
David

What kind of maintenance issues are we talking here? I mean, every engine burns oil, it's a question of how much! Is a 4.125 stroke going to wear the rings faster? How much faster?
I mean, has anyone run these in long-term applications? Is there a specific way to run them reliably? (like an RPM limit?)
Great graph there! That's some power!

I have almost your exact same set-up. I think my cam is a 112 ls instead of a 113. I have the same heads I think PP stage 3s with a race port.
My beggining numbers were 484 rwhp and 466 tq.
Now i am down on power for some reason 470 and 450. Mine does burn a little oil.

Good to know, Beast.
So has anyone had serious mechanical problems with a 395? Anything that couldn't be solved with regular maintenance? Does anyone else agree with Beast that this is NOT a turn-key mod?

I have had mine running for 16 months and have put about 20k miles on it so far with a good amount of hard miles over 6000rpm and so far I just have to add a quart of oil before I go out racing.
No real maintenance.
