Default What do you think of this combo?

Time to start gathering the stuff I need for winter Modfest '05. I should have listened to you guys the first time around, and went with a real cam. Oh well!! Anyways, this is what I'm looking at:

LQ9 longblock (the 345 hp escalade version)
LS6 intake
APE oil pump
Rollmaster single roller timing chain
Comp. hardened pushrods
Comp. 918's, 921's, or those tasty looking Patriot Gold's
Either the TSP 231/237 or the MTI Hammer cam
Hooker Longtubes
stock TB and MAF.

What kind of power should I be making, and how high can I spin this thing? It's a brand new crate motor, never fired with 0 miles on it so I'm not worried about the bearings in it being worn already. Think it will handle 7 grand?

No, the "Escalade motor" has a cast iron block, and aluminum heads.

If you have the $$$ get a stroker assembly. No need to spin to 7000 rpm any more.

And what is this combo for?

This combo is purely entertainment. I have this addiction to doing things to my car, for no reason whatsoever. I get bored and do stuff simply for the sake of doing them. I have never taken my car to the track, I never will. I don't autocross it, or do any type of competitive anything. I mod just to mod, if you get what I'm saying. I just want something different than what everyone else has, and if I can get something with more power that will be more reliable than my current setup, then all the better. I like the ARP rod and main bolt idea, I also think that when I disassemble it to do that (actually I'll probably have APE do it) I also want to re-ring the pistons, I'm not sure exactly what year this engine is for, its new on the crate, but I don't know how long its been on that crate. I want to make damn sure I don't have one of those motors that will have a bad knock or piston slap. So, anything I can do to prevent that, let me know. I don't ever plan on nitrous or a blower, I intend on staying NA so I don't need forged pistons and billet rods and all that crap.

Then build a 408, sell the rest of the parts.
In any case that 10 bolt will be toast. Keep that in mind.

No, I have a budget I have to kind of stick with, otherwise it draws out the amount of time it will take to complete this. I'm well aware the 10 bolt will be toast, I'm pricing out 9" as I write this. I think I'm going to have Scott Koresky from CZ28.com (1BAD86Z) build me one.
