Default I drive 60miles a day...would it be bad to get a cam?

car is in the sig...im thinking of getting a hotcam or ls6 cam and keeping my stock heads, but was wondering about any engine reliability issues that may come up since i drive around 60miles a day. Ive done some research in the past about these 2 cams but never really found anything about daily driving applications. Im leaning more towards the hotcam for the nice sounding lope. btw, where can i find some good prices on a hotcam? any opinions/advice? i did a search but for some reason i coudlnt find anything?? Thanks

you can run the hotcam and have no reliability issues It uses the LS6 springs and is mild with lift compared to the other cams

I just purchased the Hot cam yesterday. For the same reasons that you mentioned. I am 42 yrs. old. I have done all the radical cams/heads/blowers/nos motors in my youth and am looking for a reliable cam with a sweet sound plus moderate power gains that doesn't require a spring change every 20k or so. The hot cam fills the bill on all accounts. All the bolt ons with this cam you can expect 365 to 375 rwhp.

Dude, I just got a hotcam in on Wednesday and it idles BAD ***. Well, after I got basic tuning done. This is basically a must with an A4 and stock stall. I was hoping my car would be the exception.. but it dies at every light if you don't throw it in neutral and give it gas the entire time..

And don't even get me started on trying to reverse.

But ****. . I got basic tuning at AMS until Tues/Wed when I get it dyno tuned and that helped 10fold. It never dies now or anything.. and still sounds bad ***!

Definitely recommend the cam for anyone ...as long as you get at least basic tuning.

I also drive 60+ miles a day every day. You can see my mods in my sig. My only issue is to make sure and change the springs out periodicly. As far as shops in Houston, I can say that I am very pleased with the service I received at MTI.

There are good Cams out there that give great idle/drivability and are reliable for daily driving.I'm personally not a fan of the Hot Cam.Idle is not great for the power it gives.

I've used a TR220 on 114 Cam that drove great and got 35rwhp from it.(stockish idle,no surge)
Do some research and you'll find the best Cam for your setup.

On patrol I drive an average of 100+ miles a day for 3 and 4 days. Off duty, I drive about 50-70 mile a day. Mods in my sig and car runs great even though I havent tuned it yet. Dies out only when I accelerate and make abrupt stops, especially with AC on. I like my cam but hope to change it soon to the b1 I have sitting in my closet.

I just ordered Hotcam yesterday for my daily driver also...

Wow, this Hotcam thing is really becoming popular! Who would have thought?

Hotcam used to get such a bad rap on these boards, but for a reliable power increase (and price), you can't seem to beat it...

I just paid $2.19 per gallon which is a record for me....

...so if you drive 60 miles a day with a hot cam the only bad thing is filling your tank!

...you can thank Saddam for that, however....

Anyone remember when OPEC increased production to drop the prices? Well... when did they decreace it to make them higher? Its all about the money, and if your not on the top, your getting screwed.

You can thank Saddam for the deaths of many innocent lives. That and Firestone tires.
